More and more, I’m feeling like the first gen Tundra acess cab could be my future pickup. I prefer the pre-facelift ones with the V8. Anyway: here’s a clean 2001 Limited with only 59k(!!!) miles... But listed at $13k. And not a 4WD (which I’ve never needed but one never knows). What say you?

I am the type of person who is willing to overpay a little for a low-mileage example, but damn that’s expensive for RWD only. Still a better value than a Taco or T100 though.

you can get a clean 4x4 one in most areas for like $9k

But I’ve not seen one with such low miles

Not gonna make a difference on a truck like this IMO unless you want to keep it for like 180k more miles. One just as clean with 4x4 and 100k miles will still do you well for many miles of reliable service

Don’t do it. You’ll never live down getting a 2WD. The only places that’s acceptable are far from here (ex: SoCal).

If it wasn’t the PNW, you’d probably pay less than that for a clean 4x4 one, too.

This particular Tundra just looks cool.

But I’ve made due with two RWD pickups for 8 years. The living-down part may apply in the sense that get a loaded pickup with 4WD does sound kind of nutty...

Yeah, I guess I’m not someone who has a track record of keeping vehicles forever.

Well, if you’ve survived with 2WD for this long, maybe a 2WD with a locking diff is good enough for your needs. I don’t know, follow your heart.

Also, this is the same color and cab as the Tundra that Velodyne ran in the DARPA Grand Challenge autonomous car race in ~2005.

I’ve always liked how Toyotas retain their values really well, but I always find it fascinating that someone is willing to buy a 10+ year old car (that was mass produced, and not something “rare,” or “exotic”) and pay a premium price of $10k+; moreso when people list their 10 y/o Tacomas with 100k+ miles for $15k or more. In this case, I’m equally fascinated, but given the low mileage, I say “Nice Price!” - so long as everything meets your criteria. I have a guilty pleasure for these after riding in back of one frequently as a kid.

My friends dad had one of these, but 4x4 with only 20k on it or so. He sold it, and I was sad.

That looks exactly like my father’s truck - same color exterior and interior, wheels, etc, except his doesn’t have the TRD package and it’s 4wd. The only issue he’s had were the recalled ball joints. I really like the size - kind of 7/8th of a new F150, Silverado or Dodge but still perfectly fine for two adults and a couple kids.

This makes so much more sense than a T100 or a Tacoma. Unless you live in the mountains or go off-road, 4x4 is a luxury. I’ve got 16 Chicago winters under my belt in 2wd pickups now. 10 of those were on all-seasons and five of them were on all-seasons with an open rear diff. Only needed to be pulled out once, and that was when I buried my S-10 up to the frame in a snow drift about 15 years ago.

ehhh, don’t really need 4WD in the PNW unless you plan to go off-roading. It can do all of packed-gravel fire roads just fine in 2WD. Doesn’t snow often enough to take the payload hit or the MPG/weight hit. This one specifically, Iunno. $13k is a lot. 10-11k would seem fair, though.

But you NEED 4x4! I mean, haven’t you seen those Columbia commercials? “TESTED TOUGH IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST!” Do you honestly think a 2wd truck can withstand 8 straight months of light drizzle and 50 degree temperatures? DO YOU?!

Would have bought one of these a year ago, but RUST. Nice to not have to worry about the paper mache frames these all have.

For that pricepoint, I’d really expect photos of the engine bay /undercarriage (which should be pristine for $13k) and would’ve really liked to see the original radio. Hoping the wiring wasn’t butchered too badly.

That’s a nice looking truck, too bad about the front wheels not working..

I don’t crawl with the Taco, but it does go in and out of 4wd during the winter. Like more than a few times.. Plus we go much further on dirt roads than I would without 4wd.

It’s like buying a second gen 4.7.. It would probably be fine but every time you saw a 5.7 you would wonder..
