How does one become dumb enough to put twine in place of a cotter pin, and think it will do ANYTHING?

I suppose it might add a little resistance, almost like a threadlocker, but really... How can you not have some kind of metal available to make do instead? There are so many things that would do, in a pinch.

I don’t think it would even do that, the stuff is so compressible and soft. But yeah, even a paper clip would be way better.

this one hardly surprises me. For a long time, cheap replacement mufflers were made from plain steel, and lasted a year at most.
