Well, unlike yesterday, today’s second day of the autocross event was wet and cold. Fortunately I ended up in the second heat, when the rain stopped. Unfortunately, I was working the first heat and even a big umbrella didn’t keep my feet from getting soaked and my body cold enough that I was shivering.

On the plus side, my closest competitor managed to make it today, and we challenged each other, with him edging me out in the last run on the still-wet course.

I also confirmed the presence of the Pao in the Charlotte area. Owner previously had a Mini Cooper S that self-destructed at 100,000 miles, and she and her husband decided to get something fun and unusual. She loves it. (He drives a Miata and works on the cars.) She does NOT autocross it, which is too bad, it would be fun to watch.

I’m getting fairly good with the driving, but keep being shown that I could be better. Third of 22 novices yesterday (the first two having great cars . . . and drivers), second of 12 today. It’ll be interesting when we move to compete directly in the open class, but I’m not in any rush to give up the extra run I get as a novice.

I recognize that black and silver STS-prep CRX and the “In Torque We Trust” 350Z, they’re SCR regulars! Also, I see a yellow second-generation Miata on the far right in the first picture, being loaded onto a trailer next to the golf course catch net. If you happened to get a good look at it, was a metallic yellow or just a gloss yellow? If it’s gloss yellow and the interior is intact (meaning not a spec Miata or repainted prepped car) then you might have spotted a rare special order ‘02!

BONUS PAO HELL YEAH!

Also, hopefully we meet at a future autocross! I believe our regions will cross paths at Michelin’s testing grounds on October 28th ! Otherwise, the nearest SCR event to you is Darlington in September unless you’re willing to travel to Myrtle Beach!

There was a Miata with an unusual light yellow color, but I didn’t look closely.

You should come visit the next event at black lake (Michelin proving ground near Mountville, SC). I’ll be at the one on memorial day weekend, also at black lake.

Hmm, I might have to consider that May 7th event depending on whether or not I go to Road Atlanta the following weekend to watch FD and GTA!

Based on the conversation, I would guess Pao wheels, but since her husband runs a Miata, could be that, too.
