I’ve been around long enough to know we probably won’t get it done, and even if we make the start we probably won’t last more than an hour or two before catastrophic breakdown, but I’m cautiously optimistic because the guys who invited me have built an insane 11 second SC300 and I’ve been looking for a car to wrench on since my wife won’t let me have my own beater anymore so hopefully it works.

Yea good luck to ya. I basically became the leader of a group of kids who wanted to race before they even could turn a wrench. Bought a terrible first car. ‘85 300zx, extremely rusty. In addition to that, the school advisor doesn’t quite get the whole point of this and won’t let me swap the ‘80s fuel injection for a carb.

Sounds like a good learning opportunity at least. I did AIAA design/build/fly 10 years ago in college and our way too complicated dumpster fire of a plane didn’t leave the ground the first year and crashed beyond repairability a week before the competition the next. I learned more about what it takes to actually get things done as a team from that than I would’ve if t actually worked.
