Quintus closed the interview by telling Drive that he’s “not even sure the next generation of M3 and M4 models from BMW will have the option of a manual gearbox.” Thank God for Porsche.

BMW is quickly becoming the next Toyota.

I can still dream about owning a three-pedal GT3 one day.

There is reasoning behind his words, but lets be honest BMW are just lazy. They still sell a lot of manual M3 and M4s, because there is demand when it comes to their brand.

They talk about reliability and stuff, but the reality is people that buy those cars, especially in manual configuration are, real petrolheads, very rich wanting to be exclusive or ppl that hope they will make a profit in the future, because of rarity.

And finally the manuals can’t take torque and power, hur durr, there are enough non-murican cars offering manuals without them breaking left or right, both now and in the past.

If BMW don’t offer a manual in the next M3/M4, even if as an paid option they will miss some money, at least here in Europe.

Me too....Me too. But a manual 911 Turbo will be more attainable.

Have you heard what the manual take-rate is on the current M3/M4 and the M2? If I had to guess, I’d say 25%, but hope it’s closer to 50%.

reliability or manual trans missions is pretty dang good. There are many people i know and myself who have had/have tuned cars with stock manuals that still hold power just fine. Its the clutch that needs to be upgraded

I don’t know, but even at 25% it is a solid number. The M cars have a lot of die hard fans, that will seek the manual even if this means going down the line.
One of my good acquaintances had a M5 E39 and when they didn’t offer a manual with the E60 here in Europe he went with a E92 M3 and is now owning a M4. And when it comes to BMW he is not alone in my experience.

And more recently:

there’s a 20 percent take rate for manuals for the M2, M3, and M4 in the US...and these are the customers who are keeping the manual alive for us

Hopefully we can keep that up and keep it around as an option!
