It would be perfect for off roading, hauling my shit, and an eventual overland vehicle. Add some propane injection and it would be good to go. Just needs a new injection pump, which is a little pricey, but not too hard to do.

Is that the same diesel that they put in Humvees that had failing blocks like crazy? Thought I remembered a DeMuro or Wheeler Dealers snippet about something like that, maybe the #8 cylinder getting a crack?

I love me some big body burbans. I could live the 454's mileage though. I could get by on $20 a week if it gets 8mpg.

Nope, that is the 6.2L non turbo diesel.

While I love suburbans, you are better off getting a gas one than diesel. The 6.5 is the apex of that engine line, but is still lousy compared to a gas engine. That diesel only put out 190 HP when new and it is 20 years old. My focus with a NA 2.0 puts out 160 and weighs less than half what that suburban does.

I had a 6.2 suburban and while it was awesome, it could barely get out of its own way. The diesel commands a price premium that it doesn’t deserve on these vehicles. Those GM diesels don’t get much better mileage than a gas engine, make about the same power and few performance parts are available any more.

Also beware of the ‘needs new injection pump’ that’s like saying ‘the carb needs tuned’ and ignoring all the other issues a vehicle has.

Nope I want the diesel. I too had a 6.2 and know what you mean, but I like 6.5 truck and it would be more a toy. The injection pump is probably fine. 90% of these trucks it is the PMD on the pump that failed, but not the pump itself.

As long as your know what you’re getting into. Good luck selling the 928, that’s a handsome car.
