Why are you so trusting?

Kinja'd!!!

I foolishly volunteered to work Saturday, so tonight I’m relaxing with a double scotch and watching some of the terrible first season of Star Trek: the Next Generation. How is the rest of Oppo spending their Friday night?

Pretty much the same, except I’ll be watching the superior Star Trek show: DS9

XD

Well, I volunteered to work on Friday, normally one of my days off. Since I have to be back at work at 0300, I’ll probably be hitting the sack in a few minutes.

I was going to have a nice glass of bourbon this evening but I forgot that I took out the ice tray to put a few items in the freezer the other day...

Oh it is, but sometimes it’s fun to watch just how bad the first season of TNG is.

You know, most of the first seasons of the Trek series are kinda questionable, but there’s always exceptions. I always liked TNG’s “The Battle” and “11001001". DS9 had probably the best first season episode of them all in “Duet”, and Voyager’s “Learning Curve” was good.

I’ve tried bourbon a few times but I don’t care for it. I’m happy to leave it to others that do. Maybe I just haven’t had the right one.

I can only drink scotch neat. I don’t like it cold, and I don’t like it diluted.

Duet is awesome and imo set the bar for DS9.

I’ve never actually watched all of TNG’s Season 1 because it’s rather painful. I’ll probably suffer through it this weekend

As for Voyager, Heroes and Demons is my favorite from the first season, mostly because of Picardo.

Normally I drink my scotch neat, unless it’s cask strength, and then it needs something to tone it down a touch. A friend gave me a bottle of water from Scotland that is supposed to have minimal impact on the flavour, but since I don’t have anything cask strength it has gone unused. After spending $60+ on a bottle of scotch I don’t want to do anything to wreck it.

As I’ve found, there are a number of bad bourbons out there. And even the good ones, like wine, can very from year to year. I had a favourite from France that was delicious, but the second bottle seemed like it was from a different maker altogether. Bourbon can be a bit sweeter than the scotch, and I usually prefer that after a meal, almost as if it’s a dessert, especially on a warm evening whilst enjoying a good cigar.

Just had a Guinness, drank some cola but think I’m going to have a large Jameson Teeling Single Grain now.

I’m back in work tomorrow night and somehow got volunteered to walk a neighbours dog tomorrow (now today here) afternoon, so broken sleep is going to be the words for today.

There’s a few decent ones, but the other six seasons are so much better. “Symbiosis” is so cringe-inducing, though.

I recently discovered I kind of like scotch with soda. I’ll try using that the next time I have access to cask strength scotch.

Scotch and a cigar can be good, but honestly I prefer my cigars with a good cup of coffee instead. I had a couple of sticks with coffee today. Man, does that improve your outlook at work.

You know, in all these years I’ve never had a scotch and soda. I don’t know why not. I’ll have to give it a try some time, perhaps on a night out since I don’t want to risk the 18 year old stuff I have around the house at the moment.

I’m not really a coffee drinker so that idea really hadn’t occurred to me. Both being rather strong flavours I wonder if they would contrast more than they complement each other. I don’t think tea, my usual hot beverage of choice, would go well with a cigar, but perhaps I’ll have to try it just to see...

And this thread has reminded me that I need to contact Costco. They no longer seem to have Johnnie Walker Double Black, my usual favourite, in stock anymore.

The first time I had coffee and a cigar together it was a revelation. I can’t imagine having one without the other now.

I hit a brewery in the afternoon, took my doggo with me. Spent the evening with my other other Prelude, and got some ice cream.

I’m enjoying some Jim Beam Devil’s Cut. It’s excellent!

Watching Star Trek TNG sounds great. Even if it is season 1. It’ll always be my favorite show!
