No mufflers, but it does have cats. It’s cold out, hence why it wouldn’t stay running. Didn’t get to drive it (not enough anti-freeze in it, plus Pappaw doesn’t think I’m ready for the clutch. It’s a cable clutch, not hydraulic like my truck. His hip was hurting so he couldn’t drive it.

You might wanna skip the latest episode of Roadkill because they don’t like your car and they don’t mince their words. But they do speed up the Rotsun with an engine out of your car...

My HEAVILY modified and stock 5.0 vehicles both will stay running in sub zero temps. Find out what’s wrong. Hook up a test light and pull codes from the PCM. Yes, that is possible with OBD-I.

9 times out of 10, it can be attributed to something idle related.

The surging is common with Foxbodies. Usually, once it warms up, it’ll stay running just fine.

You read my first sentence right? I’ve had my one foxbody Cougar for 19 years. Yes, they’re known for surge issues, but that doesn’t mean they left the factory with them.

Protip. On a cold start do not have the defroster or heater on until the initial high speed idle comes down. It will exacerbate any idle issues you may have.

Sounds like it could use a little TLC. Is it leaking coolant somewhere?

Funny you mention the cable clutch, my parents will outright refuse to drive my Mach because the clutch feels “heavy.” To me it’s not bad but my left leg seems to have gotten much bigger than my right..... They’re a little spoiled by their new Mustangs. My foot just goes right through the floor on the new cars.

It probably is. The surging could be any number of issues, and really isn’t worth chasing down IMO since the car really runs just fine when it’s warm up.
