Well Oppo, I finally did it. Traded in my aging Jetta and picked this one up. 2016 Silverado 1500 Custom 5.3L 4WD. Unfortunately, now I’ll be selling the Jeep I just recently got, but it’s for the better. I didn’t love having more than one vehicle (if anyone is interested, I live near Columbus, Ohio). It’s a lease turn in with 6,000 miles on it, and the previous owner put 5% tint on the windows, which I will promptly be removing (on the front). Only flaw is the front passenger wheel was curbed. It’s not too bad; I’ll have to see if I can touch it up sometime. Overall, I’m in love. And as a bonus, the fiance likes it too!

5% tint?! how does one see out when 95% of the light is blocked?

Georgeous truck in black! That drivetrain cab combo is what I’d get if I was looking for a truck as a daily.

Can you even see out with 5% tint lol?

You can’t. It’s ridiculous, which is why I’m going to take it off. During the day in the sun, it’s actually kind of nice. I don’t even need sunglasses, especially since the top 8 or so inches of the windshield has the same tint. But at night, it’s really bad. Driving home around 9:00pm last night, whenever I came to a stop, Ihad to roll the windows down before I turned just to make sure there wasn’t actually a car coming. You can’t see a thing.

Couldn’t get the dealer to throw tint removal and wheel refinishing into the deal?

During the day? Yeah, it’s pretty great. Don’t even need sunglasses in direct sunlight.

At night? Not a bit. Every time I came to a stop last night I had to roll the windows down to make sure no one was coming before I turned.

So, 5% if you look left or right and 100% if you look straight ahead at the road in front of you? That would give me a killer headache!

Dealer told me if I don’t like it to bring it back any time and they’ll remove it for free. As for the wheels, he said that’s one of the reasons I got the price dropped so much. I essentially got about $1000 off the price, on top of not paying for tax/title/reg. Saved almost $4k.

Yup, plus the 5% at the top of the windshield. It actually is really convenient during the day. Removes all glare from other car windows coming in the side while passing on the highway. 5% sounds really dark, and it is, but it’s just like wearing sunglasses. You can still see perfectly clearly during the day. I’m still going to remove it, though.

Might as well take them up on the tint. Understandable about the wheel, chrome ones are harder to refinish. Painted wheels are much easier. I’ve had good luck with a couple different wheel repair places, one was a local franchise of Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists and the other was an independent guy. Someone similar could probably fix up your wheel, but might cost a bit more for chrome.

It’s not that noticeable unless you’re up close, and I tend to like more sidewall, so I might get 18's when I get new tires down the road. These are 20's. Trying not to spend any more money on it right now. I’ll definitely take it back to the dealer some time this weekend, though, for the tint removal.

Wait, aren’t we supposed to give you shit for buying a truck that you clearly don’t need? Why didn’t you buy a minivan?????? /s

Nice truck, mine’s basically the same but the 2011 Z71 version. It’s been enjoyable for a truck, but I’m looking forward to driving something that has a better turn radius than a Nimitz class aircraft carrier. Mine’s got 90k miles on it, and I can retire it to just work duty when it gets closer to 150k. Zero issues so far. I’ve only had to swap fluids, no repairs required so far.

Nice! love that LED blacked out or color matching face. My buddy recently got a 2016 Mid-Night edition from Jack Maxton. Which Coughlin? Pataskala? I got my truck from there 6 years ago and it was a pretty good dealer then

We’ve had GM trucks in our family my whole life. This one is in for the long haul.

Coughlin Marysville. This is the Custom trim, which is basically the Work Truck version but with color matching front and rear bumpers, 20" wheels, and the 7" touchscreen radio. Chose this model specifically for the color matching blacked out face.

I like that with this gen they seem to have made a lot more with no chrome bumpers. Very rare to see the previous gen with body color bumper/grill combo.

Same here. I learned to drive on a ‘95 single cab, long bed, stick shift work truck. Seriously, it didn’t even have a tape deck or carpet, much less “luxuries” like A/C.

Side note, as a former Columbus resident, all of my Cbus friends look at me crazy for DD’ing a truck. Here in Wisconsin it’s almost mandatory to drive a truck.

I must say, that is one nice looking truck.

I understand about taking care of the dark tint. I had my first new car tinted ‘limousine tint’ back in the 80's. I thought I was the shizzle! Fantastic during the day. Not so much at night. There were a few times that I had to lift the hatch so that I could see to back up. Never again!

Good luck with the new truck!

I guess I’m confused. Are you saying you just got a jeep, and now bought a truck? Is it a beater jeep or something? If not, why didn’t you just get a truck instead?

Ah yeah they look sharp. I have been looking for a replacement for my truck and the Customs are a great option and look way way better than the ones with the chrome face.

Sir, your fiancée liking the truck is not a “bonus”; IT’S THE BIGGEST PERK OF ALL.

As much as I love my CTS, my wife is hounding me to go get a new 4x4 crew cab truck for my next vehicle. She said, and I quote, “The last guy I was romantically involved with [the guy she was seeing before she started dating me] who drove a car got dumped.” I can’t argue with her on this point.

A Raptor will probably be in my future within two years.

Fiance and her family said the same thing. Her dad also said he wants a truck by can’t handle the fuel economy. I showed him I have a 22mpg average right now, and he gets 29, but he can’t handle 22. The truck really isn’t that big. Sure, it’s larger than most passenger cars, but you can see every corner of the truck and know where you are at all times. People like to complain about other people’s vehicle choices.

Bought the Jeep as a more or less of a back up/winter vehicle for my aging 200,000+ mile Jetta that problems started popping up on (the Jeep was $2k). Shortly after I bought the Jeep, I got offered a full time salaried position at my company. Now that I have saved up a good amount of money, I purchased a ‘new’ vehicle and can sell the old ones, to consolidate down to one do-it-all vehicle.

I tend to keep my vehicles for a long time (I kept my 2006 F-150 Lariat 4x4 for 9.5 years, until the mechanic caught it on fire), so changing out a vehicle after only four years goes against my normal routine, but if the wife finds it sexy, it gets done.
