The ATS is already competitive in its class for handling, looks, and powertrain, but it basically follows the exact same formula as the big 2 competitors, the C class and the 3 series. It’s hard to beat the German manufacturers in a market they are very established in with the v6 turbo formula, but the ATS could easily become the most attractive option in the segment to a lot of buyers:

Output could be tuned to be the same as the Camaro to not cannibalize sales, and it would be like a baby SS with a better badge and interior and STUNNING by comparison. To help market it just keep the corvette motor cover in the engine bay, and go all Maserati on everybody. It would be the option with the reliability of the IS but the excitement of the M3 (Not really saying much anymore)

No. Let Caddy play with it’s own toys. I quote:

Side note, as much as I like the LT4... don’t put it in anything else. And PLEASE don’t put it in the Z/28, when it comes. I’m all on board with the “If it ain’t broke” mentality, but there still comes a point where you need something unique...

I say go past V and do an ATS-VR above it with a DOHC twin-turbo V8 hitting over 510 hp. That would be more in Cadillacs current style and hit the 500-plus hp V8 C63S and upcoming XE SVR.

The z/28 will probably spawn an LT7 of sorts. 7.0L and and hand built and insane. Put it in a CTS maybe.

Yeah its a shame the germans are the only ones doing a lot of v8TTs they are a sweet powerplant

Not gonna happen. The LT1 can approach 500HP with just bolt ons alone. Add H&C and the sky seems to be the limit.

Q: How many LT1 ATS buyers will get it and mod their way to a discount CTS-V? A: Too many to make a V8 ATS a good business case for caddy.

You can also mod the TTV6...but a V6 no matter how good is not gonna be good enough for those that want a V8, which is why only the CTS gets one.

I desperately want this, but the fact is (unless GM is just holding it’s cards close to it’s chest) the AFM lifters they need for MPG and emissions regs mean the high-revving 7.0 is dead.

Personally I wouldn’t mind seeing something the size of the 4.8 in the Z/28... It never had enough torque in my book for truck use but DAMN that thing wound out. A little massaging and a diet for the Z/28 and that’s an awesome car

I just thing it was traditionally so easy for GM to swap different performance motors into any chassis since the LS/LT motors had such similar blocks despite their displacement. Having two new turbo motors and also the LT motors makes it much harder to drop an engine into something as a performance version, I assume.

I love the styling of the regular ATS, but there’s an ATS-V in the garage at work, and I think the body package is too bulked up and over done. Kind of Joe Piscapo’s “after” picture.

The engine is the only let down of the ATS-V. I’ve been wonder how long it’s going to take before someone puts a Zl1 engine in one.they are the same platform.

There’s nothing wrong at all with the engine. Many professional auto journalists share my opinion. It produces gobs of power in a vehicle that outperforms the M3/4 around a track. If you add a V8, the car won’t be nearly as balanced.

GMs modern V8s traditionally have weight less than most TT v6s.

Rumor has it the ats chassis will accept the ls/lt plant as well. It was said they actually had mules with the v8 in them during development.

Yes! I get that the Camaro SS is essentially a ATS-V with a LT1 but it doesn’t explain why Cadillac decided to use a Corvette engine in the CTS-V but not the ATS-V.

I think Cadillac still isn’t sure what it should be doing and that’s a shame because they’re doing amazing things now, imagine if they had a more focused philosophy!

Yeah I think itll all come together soon and the TTv6 makes them look modern and with the segment more than the LT1 would but the v8 would bring in a few extra enthusiast buyers because it will be the only v8 just like the c63 used to be. I think it would be cool for the american competition to have wonderful v8 rumble and be 20x more aftermarket friendly (this is a huge one).

They need to go the AMG route and shove that TTV6 in the XT5. That would sell like crazy

Every Cadillac should have a small block option. You want to stand apart from the the competition? The small block fits almost anywhere.

Make V12 small block, put it in an Escalade and charge $180. Put that same engine in a coupe based off of the Omega chassis and charge the same amount. Suddenly Cadillac is ballsy and cool, but they have to have the XT3 and XT7 out too so that people actually buy something

Honestly with every luxury manufacturer making a complicated ass TTv8 just make a factory twin turbo LT motor and just destroy the germans at half the cost and size. Even at a lower displacement a 5.0L LT twin turbo block with factory packaging would be cool as fuck and a great swap for other cars too as a crate motor.

What that car needs is a new interior, period. Why? Because new interior means people cross shopping 70K cars may actually buy (or lease) it without walking away in disgust which would incentivize GM to spend more on it and, by default for GM, install an LT1 as the next trim level (V-R perhaps?).

I love performance as much as the next guy, but the ATS has the most god awful interior for the price and if it’s where you have to spend all your time and pay $1,250 a month after $15K down to buy it there’s no way in hell im sitting in that cheap plastic hell hole every day.
