These are all glaring issues. This is a year old car that has never been in a wreck. The Cruze is a poorly made car.

Doesn’t the Cruze start at $17k? Doesn’t seem unreasonable for a highly affordable car, especially when the average is twice that amount now.

You remind me of the guy I met when I was working at my first dealer job. He pulls in with his 2002 Neon, leaves it running in park, gets out, then puts his hand on the open door’s upper frame.

“Feel that? It shouldn’t be vibrating like that!”

My service manager tells him “Its a $12,000 Neon, not a $50,000 Mercedes” and sent him on his way.

Remember when GM was selling F-bodies in Japan? They had a separate inspection line that would fix all the crap like this before the car shipped because the Japanese consumer would never tolerate such appalling build quality. The problem here is that we accept this low level of build quality as being normal and therefore deem it acceptable.

My Mazda5 was $17K when new. Yeah, the materials are not exactly BMW/MB/Porsche-like in quality, but at that price I fully understand. However, it is solidly constructed and really hasn’t given me any trouble in the nearly 5 years I’ve owned it.

I like the Cruze (as well as a number of other domestic products) and I would like to support the domestic auto industry, but it’s stuff like this that makes me take my money elsewhere. No amount of tariffs or other punitive measures will make me spend my hard-earned money on second-rate products in order to prop up a company just because they’re based here. We can obviously do better, but when we accept mediocrity the manufacturer has -zero- reason to change their behavior.

Probably true, as I’m sure it was a premium product over there. But if Mazda can make a well-built $21,000 car, why can’t GM make a $26,000 one of equal quality? It’s all about what the customer is willing to accept, and I guess Americans don’t hold their domestic manufacturers to a very high standard.

Oh shut up with this whole “from an on enthusiast perspective” thing. Valid complaints non enthusiasts would have have to do with build quality like that (my non enthusiast friend pointed out the panel gaps, asking if the car had been in an accident) and plenty of non enthusiasts would consider a car where all of the buttons inside intermittently just don’t work sometimes, or a car that occasionally doesn’t start for no reason at all problematic. I like you dude, but you’re being totally thick skulled about this for no reason. You wanted a perspective from a Cruze owner, you got one. Don’t be like “no you’re wrong” BRUH I DD’D IT FOR OVER A YEAR. Even the guy who liked his was like “yeah I needed to replace the turbo, PCV valve, and water pump” ON A CAR THAT’S 4 YEARS OLD.

The Cruze is a mediocre car by any standards at all. It’s a decent looking car, yes, and the upgraded stereo is nice when it works, but other than that, it has nothing going for it.

And I want to add, I’m not saying “WHY BUY A CRUZE WHEN YOU CAN GET A USED JAGUAR WHATEVERTHEFUCK FOR THE SAME PRICE?!”

I’m saying. Buy literally anything else, a Nissan Altima, Toyota Corolla, ANYTHING.

I worked at a Chevy dealership for over a year. You don’t want a Cruze. I will repeat: you do not want a Cruze. Turbo and head issues abound and the rate at which these cars devolve into a creaky mess of fitment issues and detaching plastic clips is insane. If it were a 1998 Chevy lumina it would be part for the course but a car that is less than 3 years old is ridiculous.

Kinja'd!!! "EL_ULY" (uly)
04/21/2017 at 09:20, STARS: 0

Oh I believe all these things happened and could happen to someone if they did buy one. All are not guaranteed but the level of variables over shadows all cars and the issues they face sometimes as well.

“oh don’t buy X car because mine _____”

I could easily make a huge list on my own cars and your 300. ( mega deja vu right now ). Nothing will be 100% guaranteed to occur homie, you know this.

Shit breaks on brand new cars, 4 year old cars, 10 year old cars. Luxury cars and eco cars, new and old have the same sort of gaps and paint issues. The way you perceive that is all on the buyer/owner. Personally, that sort of thing would bother me 10 years ago easily. I had a huge box of cleaning items and all that. Mega conscious of those sort of things. Cars are so meh to me nowadays that a PCV, water pump and little things like that are gifts from above compared to network communication failures, hybrid inverter issues, active diff issues, etc.

I like this little Cruze. Issues included, it seems normal. I like the looks, it’s basic. May not be the best in class but meh, I’ll take one and would recommend it. A couple of minor cosmetic touches and it seems like a neato DD.

You have a good eye for cars and please never change.

I’m running this new anti-enthusiast mood that seems very comfortable. It doesn’t help anything here and I need got some sort of cream to cover that up lol.

04/21/2017 at 09:27, STARS: 0

See that’s the thing with “working at a dealership”. You see all the issues, but also, some don’t see all them. I’ve worked for 6 brands and know all the things that happens to them all. I also know that if I purchase one of the cars that i’ve become an expert at (hint: I have) I know that it’s a potential but probably will not encounter them all. Some things, but now all. For the Cruze, all the issues seem mega cake to solve.

You also know that brand new cars also come in for some odd issues they shouldn’t be having. Happens in pretty much all makes

Thanks for finally saying that Gen 1 Cruzes are incredibly subpar cars. The 1.4T has most of the gutlessness and poor fuel economy of an Iron Duke without any of the longevity, no two trim panels/body panels line up, it looked dated when it came out, there is no rear seat legroom, and whatever dollar store camp chair-looking material they put on the dashboard is absolutely atrocious.
