Lately I been noticing a crunchy grunky kind of noise from the front of my 96 Dodge Caravan when its moving. Only noticeable with the windows down. I lifted the front end and spun the wheels and all is good, CV drive shafts “look” fine. No wheel movement when I shake the wheels. Nothing touching the wheels that could be making noise. Im thinking its the CV joints on their way out, wheel bearings, or possibly the transmission (oh well).

Here’s a video of what I hear. Yes I know it’s a vertical video, it was easier to hold the phone :)

Probably low on blinker fluid or muffler bearings have gone bad.

Could definitely be a CV, it sounds like it has that characteristic “pop” to it. Does the noise change if you’re turning or on the brakes? That’d have to be a pretty bad wheel bearing to make that kind of noise when straight.

But I just changed my blinker fluid! and I forgot about muffler bearings. :)

No difference in noise when turning or brakes. Doesn’t make the noise when turning under 5mph

Place car in neutral while driving and making noise. Does noise persist? If it do, probably not transmission. Maybe axle. Maybe bushing. Maybe rattle can.

From that video, it almost sounds like plastic. Like your hubcap is creaking. Take them off and see if the noise goes away.

Sorry to hear about your arm.

Will try that. My rear hubcap cracked in half after changing the rear shocks.

Whats wrong with my arm? I need my arms :)

Havent tried shifting in neutral. Will do that... while driving slow

Take them all off, drive around the block.

The arm well-wishes was because it hurts to hold the phone sideways.

To check for a CV, do some circles as tight as you can in a parking lot somewhere in both directions at a fairly quick speed. If it’s the joint, you’ll def here it fairly consistently then.

Worked when diagnosing the CV on it’s way out on my Accent.

It does and kinda hesitates like something grabbing, which also the van died a few hours ago. Might be related or PCM issues...again.
