The best part is you can get lucky and find a clean 1st gen for like $3k and bring it back to life for relatively cheap and you have a beautiful and capable truck that nobody really knows about. I love 2nd gens the most but they will never look this good.

Something like this would make me very happy as well for a great price. I would wrap/dip it matte black with a white roof and absolutely beat on it. 5 speed and low miles too but Troopers arent always as reliable as a 1st gen montero.

Picked up my 87 SWB a few months ago for $850. So far I’ve spent about $120 and bought almost everything I need to replace brakes and freshen suspension along with a few gaskets.

Rockauto is great and the Montero is in the perfect spot right now where there are still NOS parts available buy many are on closeout. Can’t beat a Brembo rotor for $16.

Its a first gen so 1982-1991 and its a hyundai galloper technically but we got them as mitsubishi monteros. They came in 2 and 4 door models and with manual or auto every year I think.

super clean body and interior with the manual trans, just swap in a new motor and you would have a great cheap truck. Believe me, these first gen monteros are beasts and super reliable for how old they are.
