No, your other thoughts. Sick bastards...

Anywho;

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Going to go look at a 2015 Diesel Passat TDI SEL Premium on saturday because 0% for 72 months plus incentives is pretty damn tempting.

I had a MkII Jetta Tdi back in the day, my dad still has his MkIV Tdi and my mom’s MkV Tdi needed it’s fuel pump replaced because it ate itself (common issue with that engine).

Other than the emissions scandal I’m not seeing any other major issues - like a fuel pump shitting the bed - so wondering if I’ve missed anything.

Resale will likely be crap, but if you plan on keeping 10 years or more go for it.

It’s a high-MPG car for cheap buy it and pay for a fuel pump later if need be.

I keep reading that the fix has little impact to how it drives, but test drive the heck out of it so you can judge for yourself. And make sure the dealer does a really thorough PDI. Those cars sat a long time.

Resale will be lousy but if you’re going to drive it a long time, who cares? Seems like a good car with a warranty at a used car price to me.

In the last 15 years I’ve owned 3 cars, I still own 2 of them.

That’s what I’m thinking, new car at a used car price. I mean I’d plan to drive this thing until the doors fall off so resale value is of little concern to me. I’ve owned my Jag for 11 years now so it’s time for a replacement.

If I was in the market now, I’d be all over these things, but I’m not. The only worry I’d have is the same worry that comes with any VW, because it’s, you know, VW. That’s all based on what I hear, though, not actual experience.

Same! I’ve bought 3 new cars in the last 17 years. Still have them all.

My little MkII Tdi was bullet proof and so is my Dad’s MkIV diesel. For some reason I don’t see the Diesels in the same light as the Gas engines when it comes to reliability. When I sold my Jetta it had almost 300k miles on it and that engine ran like a top.

I’m going to drive it until the doors fall off so resale isn’t a big concern.

It’s funny, there seems to be no middle ground with VW - -people love them and run them forever, or hate them and have all kinds of horror stories about them. Clearly, you’ve had great experiences—

If the injection pump fails it’s several thousand dollars and everything from the lift pump in the tank to the injectors needs to be replaced. Food for thought. They drive great, but a lot of the last-generation 2.0Ls lost pumps so I’m not optimistic these are better.

Yeah, PotbellyJoe’s sister had a 2000 MkIV that was and electrical nightmare bordering lemon law recall, but it was the Gas. My dad’s 02 MkIV diesel has only needed regular maintenance items replaced at their required time, he’s only just replaced his first clutch on it.

It’s the only thing that concerns me, but after the replacements I’ve not seen recurring issues regarding the pumps and I haven’t seen anything since. Was curious if I missed something.

I haven’t seen any repeat failures, but it’s so damn expensive if it does happen. For a time, VW wouldn’t even sell us new pumps, they hoarded them all for their dealers.

My buddy and I went to a dealer yesterday thinking we’d be first in line for them. Turns out they had about fifteen or so cars and all except four had already been spoken for. They were selling them all at the original MSRP and then the 5k financing bonus was applied to that. So at least around me where the demand is high, the deal isn’t that great at all. 5k off of MSRP is almost within normal negotiating range for some cars.

However if you want a yellow, convertible, 6 speed manual, diesel Beetle, that is one of the cars that’s still available.
