Some unlucky robin who was sitting in the median waited too long to take off and then banked right into the Camry’s grille on the highway this morning. Thankfully there was no flameout and no #Camrydent.

Geez, that’s the worst possible moment for that to happen in the video. Good work by the crew—

Yeah, the calm of the flight crew and ATC is fantastic.

In my first bird moment, I was driving my e36 M3 from Houston to San Antonio when up ahead were 2 standard OEM grackles hanging out in the right lane. I had a car to my left and wouldn’t be able to swerve to avoid there 2 dumb birds that would not fly away. Finally, one took off to safety at the last possible moment. The other..... All I saw at the last second was it opening its wings the boop!

When I got home, there was no signs of damage. The next day at work, I put the car on the lift to inspect. The ONLY damage on the car was on the square brake cooling duct that is connected from the opening next to the fog light and the inner fender well/liner. It was just knocked off a little so I just snapped it back in.

I saw one at church on Easter, glued to the grille of a Rav 4. It did not come back to life. Birds love Toyotas. They’re like kamikazes....Saaaavvveddd by (Mitsubishi) Zeeero! #streamofconsciousness

My father in law hit a big ol’ turkey on the highway the other day with a 2004 Yukon xl denali. The whole front grille was smashed, the lettering was gone, and there was blood all down the side of the thing, even on the roof. Of course the car was white. Lucky it didn’t hit the windshield!

I think he was on his way to the picket line. I think this is the strike organizer:

Turkeys are big, tough, birds. I know from hunting them that their wings are tough enough to catch or deflect most of the shot from a shotgun shell. You basically have to wait until they stretch their neck and then aim for that if you want to kill them.

I had a similar experience, with a possum. I’m pretty sure i clipped the poor thing’s butt, because in the mirror I saw the tail end (pun intended) of a little spin move and then it scurried off.

He’s declared an emergency and still says “good morning” to approach. Old habits die hard. In the early days of the 75, Boeing flew one out of one of the highest airports in the world (don’t remember which offhand), taking off, flying and landing on one engine. Short of a fire, the whole event in the video was rather routine.

Also, dat Concorde.

Also, I killed a male cardinal once while driving to Abilene. He was on the edge of the road, and flew up just as I was passing. Cardinals mate for life, so I was bummed.

As an animal lover, that dismays me.

As a Cubs fan, that pleases me.
