Mugen Carbon Knob has been delivered. Its surprisingly bigger than the OEM, but lighter. Still it fits in the hand really nicely, so I will see how I get on with it.

Kinja'd!!!

Not entirely sure I like it, so will leave it for a few weeks and see how i feel once its not new

What is it with Hondas and worn-out shift knobs?

I really wanted a titanium Anvil 2, but those bastards have been saying their Ti supply chain is busted for a year now, so screw ‘em. I’ll probably end up getting a new or lightly-used stock one. Like this one here...

Nice! How many seconds and/or minutes will it take off your ‘ring time?

But seriously, did you make it onto your train on time? You said that you had 45 mins spare which wasn’t much.

I have an aftermarket shift knob in my Accent...it’s special to me as it was also in my old car (my 2002 Subaru Impreza 2.5TS, which was my first car) and was a gift from a friend in uni I’m still good friends with who had it in HIS car before he gave it to me.

It’s an older WRC engraved steel knob with a cool, worn patina to it (the black is worn away to a bronze-brown where hands rub it from use, and you can see the milling ‘rings’!) and I intend on trying to keep it in every car I ever own with a manual transmission :D

Also, coincidentally Subaru, of course had WRC history and Hyundai did and currently does as well :P

What year accent do you drive? I always wanted to try the 07-11 hatchbacks.

That is exactly what I drive! :P

A 2009 Accent hatch - base model with manual everything (including transmission), no cruise, no A/C, no ABS, no ESC, etc. I like it that way actually. It’s a very simple car to live with and even without all the comforts I’m more than happy with it.

What she’ll look like in a few weeks (taken last year - excuse the dirt and undercoating sealant, haha) once I get the summer tires back on...riding on beat up ‘98 Ford Escort alloys :P

It’s been a pretty good car so far...117,000km . Yes, there are a few rattles here and there (the interior does have a lot of hard plastic, but it feels pretty durable). The rattles are mostly from them removing some interior trim to repair accident damage the other year when I spun out on some unseen black ice and backed into a guardrail at 40-50kph or so), but they are mostly from since they removed that trim and replaced it and some of them seem to go away in the Spring/Summer/Fall when the temp is higher.

Reliability wise, it’s never left me stranded anywhere. I had a starting issue at one point (it would always start though, just took several tries) that was due to the chip reader for the key in the steering column malfunctioning and another issue with an occasional slight misfire on start due to a dying coil pack on one cylinder that has since been replaced (the misfire always went away once the engine warmed up slightly), but otherwise, ‘Humdrum’ has been a champ and those are the only two ‘major’ issues I’ve had. :)

Driving wise, it’s no sports car, but the handling really isn’t that bad at all for an ecobox, especially if I had a decent set of rims and tires on it. With a good set of rims/tires and some decent suspension, I would dare say it wouldn’t bad a bad little car for autocross. The manual trans has some long throws, but the gearbox has a sortof chunky notchy feel when engaging a gear that is mechanically pleasant (to me anyway) - SR models of the Accent hatch here in Canada also came with a factory short-throw shifter, and you can find them aftermarket as well. The clutch is very light and easy to use and the engine, while not fast (110hp for the only-option-in-North America 1.6L) is peppy enough that I have no trouble passing if I need to.

With the rear seats flipped down, it can haul a decent amount of stuff as well! I much prefer the hatchbacks over the sedans in terms of styling.

A word of personal opinion on transmission choice though - if you can drive stick, get it with the manual. My mom and brother both have 2010/2009 Accent sedans similar to mine, respectively, and they both have auto transmissions.....it REALLY sucks the life out of the engine. MUCH better with a stick! It’s like night and day driving their cars and mine back to back!

Holy crap, all 3 of you guys have the same car?! The Accent must’ve really impressed your family. Of course I’d get it in manual.

I am thinking of selling my Veloster Rally Edition and getting a much cheaper, simpler, smaller car. I absolutely love my Vel, it’s the perfect hot hatchback. But I feel like it’s just too good and too much car. The Accent is in my short list and has been for a while. I just love how cute the hatchback looks. The face is cute, the butt is cute, and the interior is pretty nicely designed for an econobox. If it’s as fun as the other B segment hatchbacks like the Fit and Mazda2, it would be a no brainer. But perhaps with some cheap mods like a short throw shifter, it might be fun enough.

The other cars on my short list are definitely beating it though. The Honda Prelude 5th gen, Acura Integra GS-R, and Celica GT-S. These three are the super fun bargain cars. Also CRX, and EG Civic, are in the running. They get the upper hand in fun over the Accent. But the Accent is still an option since it’s much, much newer for the same price as those above Bro-taxed cars, still extremely light weight for a modern car, likely even cheaper parts and wearable materials, and I only had good experiences with Hyundai.

I’m glad to hear you like it. Perhaps a short throw shifter would be in your future? How’s the driving ergonomics? I have short arms compared to torso and legs so I barely got the right seat position in my Veloster with all the tilt and telescope of the steering wheel and lowering of the seat.

Well its carbon, and has a big Mugen sticker, so got to be at least +10bhp, so I reckon i’d be challenging the Lambo for fastest road car now /s

I did - by about 4 minutes to spare ha, There was some liberal interpretation of speed limits through most of Belgium and France to make the train, but worked perfectly in the end.

Awh shit, what a wasted opportunity. Ideally one with LEDs for eyes, for maximum class.

A Celica or an Integra would probably be more fun cars, but with some odds the Accent wouldn’t be too bad. I will warn you that, if you went with it, I know there is a very limited aftermarket compared to the Civics/Integras/etc.

Ergonomics are fine...I have somewhat short legs and am 5'7", so I feel like I have to be closer to the pedals than I would like. Everything falls easily to hand though, at least to me. The seat could be a little more supportive, especially lumbar support, but it’s not bad.
