If I was interested in getting a full time job with benefits and moving there (I live in Long Island so it’s not terribly far) what would you suggest? Looking for video editing and/or graphic design jobs... not a programmer.

If you’re looking for suggestions for employment opportunities, I have absolutely no idea.
If you’re asking for the best places to look for those jobs or where to live, my own opinion would be in the downtown core or northeast corner. I happen to live in the northwest corner of Etobicoke and while it’s nice it seems like everything is located in the east end or in the heart of the city. For graphic design I’d definitely expect to be looking downtown.
Not to sound like the stereotypical “Toronto is the center of the universe” type, but unless you already have a good lead forget looking outside Toronto/Mississauga. It’s where the vast majority of the business is and companies on the outside are fighting for it too and have to come into the city anyway... the only advantage they might have is an easier commute.

If you can get something where you don’t have to chase into Toronto all the time that wouldn’t be a bad place to start
