Cars that just make me go... “sure, I guess”

Suzuki Kizashi Sport SLS AWD it’s handsome, but does anyone really care?

Kinja'd!!!

Saab 9-3 2.0T it’s not an Aero/AeroX wagon (which I really like), but in this trim... such ambivalence.

Kinja'd!!!

Saturn Astra XR I really liked these when they came out, but can you be convinced that a rebadged Opel is worth something?

Kinja'd!!!

Go for it... or don’t.

I’ve actually driven none of these. But burn the Astra because dear lord the interior is appealingly hideous. Track the Saab because something something supposed poor reliability and expensive repairs. That leaves the Kizashi to DD I guess.

DD: Astra; the wife has one. A blue 5-door XR with the pano-roof and a 5MT.

That is all. Just wanted to chime in with that tidbit.

I’d rather DD the Suzuki; but the one I want is the SX4 because hatch>everything else.

Basically I haven’t actually answered your post correctly.

Come at me, bro.

Track the light and chuckable Astra

Interestingly, I like the Kizashi and would have no problem DD’ing one. I wouldn’t pay much for it, though.

DD the Astra, but it would have to be the 4-door with the panoramic sunroof. Parts shouldn’t be too hard to get since the car was popular in Europe

Track the Suzuki

Burn the Saab

But if it had to be the 2-door Astra (which wasn’t available with the sunroof), it would be track instead of DD. You could probably swap the 2.0T in it (260 hp LNF from the Coblat/HHR SS and the Solstice GXP), and I think that setup was actually available in Europe as the Opel Astra OPC.

That’s exactly how I’d want my Astra spec’d out! Yeah that panoramic sunroof is awesome as fuck! How is the car in terms of reliability?

Almost entirely trouble free. We did need to have some ignition/engine sensor related thing fixed. I don’t recall if it was warranteed or not. You can tell how much I care about it also.

I loathe driving that car. It’s too damned boring. Sure it does just fine as an appliance, but it’s dull AF.

My previous SVT Focus and current GTI are far more entertaining, even when stuck in traffic.

But if all you want is a solid, reliable DD, you can do worse than an Astra with a huge sunroof. Be sure to get the 5MT. That engine is only a 1.8 and it DOES NOT like to rev. At all. With an auto I think I’d have a crash just for something to do.

I remember a funny bit from a review of the Astra XR (I had a wild idea about finding one for a dd). In regards to its slalom performance (to paraphrase), “the performance isn’t limited by the grip of the tires, as with most cars, but by the output of the engine.”

A weird little, spunky handling, footnote in the short history of Saturn.

The Astra is the only meh car here imo (and the Saab could be in a better trim of course). …Anyway:

Daily Suzuki, it’s auto but handsome.

Track Saab, because manual and it’s the sleekest car here.

Burn the Vauxhall, because it’s basically our version of the Chevy Cavalier - even though this gen looks good, a similar Golf would be much better imo.
