Kinja'd!!!

Man when these original light covers come up they are always very expensive. Why the fuck do E Types have perfect replica covers and S30s don’t!!!?? We outnumber the Jaaags and people would buy them, the rubber seal and plastic covers we can buy are just nothing like the originals. Fuck you USA and your no covered lights law or else we would have tons of these things if they came on every Z sold back then!!! They always look like they need to be re chromed and the mounting hardware is missing as well!!

Rant over.... want.... have to finish the car before buying things like this....sad....

Are those glass? My dad has the plastic ones on his car. They don’t look bad but they do have a bit of a crease in them that makes the ones you are showing better looking.

I was thinking over the weekend. could you get that chrome trim that shows up on all the classy 10 year old, 7 series on the wrong side of the tracks? wrap it around and countersink the screws?

The originals are not glass despite what people say, but they are a high quality aircraft kind of clear plastic and a very nice chrome ring surround. I have the ones you can buy anywhere now. Supposedly you could even order these from Nissan parts dealers as late as 1995. Nissan still makes a lot of stuff for S30s, but not this and it pisses me off.

The 3D printing guy thought chromed plastic was a cheaper option than printed metal. There must be some metal trim you could bend and weld on a jig. People say these sets that pop up on Ebay in Thailand are actually copies someone made of originals and that they don’t look the same in person either. I don’t know. Metal looks different and I am picky, I don’t do anything half assed on my car. Someday when I have everything else done and I haven’t spent money on the car, I might go for a set of these, but a verified real set in good shape sells from $2300-$3000 these days. They were $80 per side from the Nissan dealer in 1995 apparently.

Egads!

Well, I think S30s look better without them anyway.

The front of the car was designed to have them, in person they look right, the gaping holes (sugar scoops) don’t look right to me.

Sounds to me like a business opportunity...

1. Get original set, and create mold from them.
2. Vacuum form multiple layers of heated acrylic. Glue together using crazy glue?
3. Make your own folded metal edge.
4. Sell for half price as originals.
5. Profit.
