Am I completely insane for considering buying this and daily driving it? as I’ve already been and had the test drive in it and need to make my mind up soon

Not if you can afford the consequences of anything going wrong. Mechanically there’s nothing too unusual but body repairs are a big issue.

Yes, GM saved Lotus by fronting the cash for Lotus’s s2 Elise as the series 1 didn’t meet the new crash regs around 2000 and made their own version using the same ally tub

Dude do it. I mean, it’s part Lotus so sketch build quality might be an issue but at the same time it’s part Lotus so it’s stupid simple and not a lot of things could really go wrong with it to begin with, plus all the major bits on it are from the GM parts bin so even if you do come across problems they’ll be cheap to fix.
Plus if you do everyone on Oppo can live vicariously through you.

yeah there really is not a lot to it, no power steering (which is going to be the biggest hurdle) only 2 stalks on the column, very basic heater (no ac)

See, no power steering’s a win-win then, you get to drive a crazy fun sportscar while getting swole as hell.
For real though, since you’ve driven it is it that much of a struggle? From my understanding the car’s basically a more liveable Elise, I would’ve figured no A/C would be a bigger issue as a daily driver considering how light the car is.

it was only a brief drive as the car has a coolant leak (diagnosed as the bleed nipple and are replacing it with silicone hose) but I did misjudge the amount of steering I needed to turn into a junction, that will improve as I’d get used to it I’d imagine

Yeah, the VX Lightning was supposed to replace this, which eventually became what the Saturn Sky was. Funny thing was there was never a RHD version of Kappa, that’s why Vauxhall never got one. GM cited costs of developing the RHD version.
