Bought a new cable modem and now my Xbox One either can’t get online or won’t connect to Xbox Live.

TP-Link TC7620 modem wired to a Linsys EA8500 router. Xbox is wired to router.

I am seeing a DHCP error when I check the network on the Xbox.

I had been using an Arris Surfboard modem; not sure which model but I know it only had half the available speed the new one does.

The Arris worked. I switched modems and called Spectrum to give them the new MAC address for the TP-Link modem. That is all that has changed.

Why does nothing work now gawddammit?

I know cable providers may have their own approved modems (regardless of where you buy it) but I presume that’s not the issue since they didn’t yell at you when you called them.

A DHCP error on your devices would indicate an issue with the router - not the modem. I hate to be that guy, but did you try to reset your router? DHCP functionality isn’t even dependent on your router’s connection to the Internet (through the modem).

Router be messed, yo.

Your XBox One MAC address should be under Settings->Network->Advanced Settings, then listed next to “Wired Mac” Keep that number.

Navigate into your router and find the DHCP table: http://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=139502

Delete that MAC address entry in the table, then power cycle(off then on) the XBox.

You could also reset the router, but then everything else in your house will take .5 seconds longer to connect and THAT’S THE EASY WAY.

Put the Xbox on a static IP in the router and then DMZ it. Issue solved.

maybe you’ve already tried this but it’s not it’s worth.

Power down all 3 devices

Boot the modem wait a couple minutes

Boot the router wait a couple minutes the

Boot the xbox.

for whatever reason my ps3 makes me do this once in a while. Hope it helps.

Where are you located? Time Warner Cable has been out since noon here in LA.
