Kinja'd!!!

Chevy SSR in the wild. Hnnnnnnng. I know these things are objectively crap because SUV platform, not fast enough, not useful as a truck, etc, blah blah blah. But I love them.

Can they tow light loads? I forgot about those, it might be just what I need for a fun car/Jet Ski tow vehicle.

I used to know where a yellow one lived. I think it was a student based on the complex and the fact I don’t see it anymore

Even though it is based on the Trailblazer that can tow up to something like 7000 lb, IIRC the tow rating on the SSR was much lower like 2,500. I’ve seen a few photos of them with trailers, but mostly little utility ones. A pair of jet skis seems possible. A boat not. Another fun option but with a fixed roof is the Trailblazer SS with the 6.0L that can town something like 6,000.

I’ve got my fast car I’m looking for topless fun, but I’m tired of having to bum a truck every time I want to put my ski in the water. I’ve been trying to find a Dakota convertible but those are rare and pretty old at this point. I forgot the SSR existed and that got me thinking.

It has to be one of the most polarizingly styled cars ever. I have heard they are horrible drives and all kinds of wobbly through the chassis.

The big problem with those is parts availability. GM has killed a lot of parts exclusive to them. In past year had customers wanting heater hoses, rear wheel and intake duct that were gone. So those vehicles were no longer perfect collectors cars after they made Mcgyvered repairs. I think the one guy had to buy a complete set of aftermarket wheels. Could find nothing on a forum. Its becoming a vehicle that you need a second as a parts car if you want to have a perfect one. We have one at our dealership that came from auction. Took forever to find some pieces. BTW, no heater controls for them anywhere now except eBay and they are big money.

Dakota production was like 2,000 and its older so yeah pretty rare. GM actually sold 20,000+ SSR’s.... but check out Daves comment below apparently parts are getting scarce already.

So you are saying if you want one and don’t care about resale, find one already modified.

Or if you don’t care about resale figure you may have to make some parts, buy used or adapt parts from other vehicles. If you did you likely wouldn’t be the only one.
