Kinja'd!!!

Time to do another one of these.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Bored today. so AMA about motorcycles!

-Dont ride and wonder about some of the basics?

-Bit of an experienced rider and want to ask about a certain riding technique?

-Have an old project that doesn’t run, and want a second opinion as to what might be wrong?

-Need an part and have no idea where to find it?

feel free to ask! I’ll be answering stuff all day, I have nothing better that i want to do.

I’ll get to ride my bike next weekend after it’s been sitting since last September.

What’s the best way to make it through the work week without going completely mad, and driving everybody around me insane?

I’ve already checked the weather forecast about 147 times.

What small cruiser would be good for a beginner to just explore New England back roads?

I’m really digging the new honda Rebel 500. just big enough to be safe on the roads, not fast enough to really scare you, and reliable to a fault.

agree on the new Rebel. avoid an older one, or something like the V-Star 250.

Not that they aren’t enjoyable to ride in their own ways, but you’ll quickly tire of having only 16 horsepower. And trying to sell it later is a b***h.

I’ve been looking at Honda groms on Craigslist for the last little bit. How healthy is that?

You are buying a sports touring bike. Yamaha FJR1300, Kawasaki Concours 14, BMW R1200RS, or Triumph Trophy?

lol.

any tips for someone who has taken a motorcycle safety course but has not ridden since then (street riding, ive had dirtbikes a few times). I might be getting a free bike here soon

Kinja'd!!! "bob and john" (bobandjohn)

how long ago was ‘since’? either way, find a parking lot, get familiar with the bike, and run through some braking exercises and slaloms.

Out of all the motorcycles you’ve ridden which was the most expensive?

Kinja'd!!! "bob and john" (bobandjohn)
04/15/2017 at 13:41, STARS: 1

ohh, good question. the 2 most expensive ones that I recall getting my hands on are a BMW K1600 GTL (30K bike) on a demo ride. Ducati 1198 S (25K bike when new)

Just got back from doing some parking lot practice. Is it normal for my temp gauge to get up there in low speed maneuvers? It’s a breezy 70F today. I stopped a few times for safety but it seemed odd.

Do things like trying to balance at the lwoest speed possible or doing the low and mid speed tight turns hurt the bike at all?

I’m looking to outfit my summer gear. What jacket and gloves do you recommend? All in $250 (American dollars)

Kinja'd!!! "bob and john" (bobandjohn)
04/15/2017 at 23:25, STARS: 0

yes, it normal for the temp to get up there. KLRs are water cooler, so once you get up to a certain temp a fan will come on and cool it off.

part 2L: not really. if anything, if going to wear out you rear brake pads and clutch a little quicker if you are dragging the rear brake/riding the clutch (as you should be for low speed stuff) but nothing thats going to kill it.

04/15/2017 at 23:33, STARS: 0

Jacket, Id probably get an Icon overload textile jacket for summer (~150 on revzilla)

this leaves with with a $100 budget for gloves. personally, i’d look at some Alpine stars or some Oxford RP3s. but realistically, your taste and riding style will vary wildly from mine. as long as it has a leather palm and knuckle protection, you should be good to go.

hypothetically when riding on a dual lane highway on a wet and windy day, do you use cars around you as a wind break?

its not unheard of.

personally, I dont. too many variables including what the cager may or may not do.
