Kick us all you want, but I like it here. I grew up in LA, lived in Oakland for almost 5 years, and in Salinas for 2. I love it here, and the world is figuring it out.

No way you could live comfortably on 70k in San Diego. Mortgage is like 2500$ minimum.

Hello there! The prices burns me up a bit because you spend your youth trying to afford to live here and then when you creep up to late thirties and finally can afford it you spend the next years trying to recapture your youth!

I’ve never understood the mass mentality that drives people to spend more to live in more crowded areas with fewer amenities, higher cost of living, and often grouchier neighbors. And they call these areas “desirable”.

Give me a little more space with a safe neighborhood and nice people while I put away for retirement and education so my kid can have that or better.

The article mentions the summers being a drawback but I feel it’s the opposite. Growing up a few minutes south in Hanford and now living in Monterey for the past 16 years I miss the summer the most. I love the warm summer nights there.
