If the Peugeot had that much time to lean on the horn there was plenty of time to also hit the brakes.

that’s what I’m talking about! The speed the Peugeot was coming in at looked like the brakes weren’t even touched until the very last second

To be fair, the Peugeot driver didn’t have a lot of time to react as this was clearly a divided highway and he was driving at highway speeds. The Morgan’s acceleration was because he was pulling out at the wrong time. I’m assuming the Peugeot hit the horn/brakes when he saw him.

You can see from the video the brakes were applied the whole time, probably when the horn was applied. The Morgan didn’t accelerate fast enough and the Peugeot driver didn’t realize that the Morgan wasn’t going to accelerate. The YouTube description states that the Peugeot was going downhill.

The Peugeot is only in the video for a second before hitting the Morgan. If they were applied the whole time he was on the horn then he needed new brakes long before this happened. Not saying the Morgan isn’t at fault, but I feel like the Peugeot thought he was going to teach them a lesson and it went badly for both.

It’s more likely that the Morgan driver assumed the Peugeot driver would slow down, and that the Peugeot driver assumed the Morgan would speed up since the Peugeot was coasting downhill (said in the Youtube description) without the brakes applied up until he/she realized the Morgan wasn’t going to speed up.

You can argue that they both exercised poor judgement but to say the Peugeot driver wanted to “teach them a lesson” is ridiculous.

Seems like some target fixation there too. That road looks at least 2 lanes wide. Probably could have just turned and gone around the Morgan.

Yeah, the Morgan appeared to stay on the inside shoulder for a bit too, though it’s hard to see from this angle.

I just don’t see the reason why anyone would want to damage their own car to spite someone.

People tailgate all the time to spite people, and ride up the bumper of those who pull out in front of them. They never intend to hit that person but most people can’t accurately judge the lack of acceleration of a Morgan either.

I wonder what was going through the mind of the Peugeot driver. I see that he veered to the left before impact. Maybe he thought the Morgan was going to hug the right shoulder and use it to accelerate, merging in behind the Peugeot.

Also, I’m not sure if the Morgan was signalling his turn. There seems to be a slight glimmer at 0:10, but maybe that’s just sunlight. There was just enough time for the Morgan to sprint across without turning, so I can totally understand if the Peugeot driver thought that that’s what the Morgan was going to do.

Signalling wouldn’t of made a difference (but still should of done it). Quite simply the law says you must give way to oncoming vehicles and the Morgan owner not only didn’t give way but didn’t even bother to check for oncoming traffic. Now this is bad in town where the limit is 20, but fucking maddening on a dual carriageway where the limit is 70.

The Peugeot driver is lucky that this was caught on film because here in the UK if you rear end someone it is pretty much always your fault (look up crash for cash) but in this case the Morgan clearly pulled out when it wasn’t safe.

Nah, Morgan is 110% at fault here. The Morgan driver obviously didn’t check for oncoming traffic since they ignored the give way markings.

They were hitting the brakes and there was little they could of done given the way the Morgan illegally pulled out.

The road the Peugeot was on was a dual carriageway which has a limit of 70. After the junction it becomes a single carriageway which has a limit of 60. Considering the speeds of the road the Morgan is legally required to give way to oncoming traffic. Something they clearly didn’t do given the speed they pulled out. The Peugeot driver is lucky that this was caught on film because here in the UK if you rear end someone, 99% of the time it is your fault unless you can prove the other driver broke the law which in this case the Morgan did.

Placing myself in the Peugeot driver’s shoes, signalling would have made a big difference to me. I see plenty of drivers who will shoot across an intersection like this if they know that they can make it. And I’m okay with that, just so long as they correctly assess that they can do it without cutting me off.

Signalling is the only way to know ahead of time what the other driver plans to do. Failing to signal is more than just rude, it’s outright LYING to other drivers about your intentions. No wonder it’s mandatory in my area.

By the time it became clear that the Morgan was indeed turning here, and not just sprinting across, the Peugeot driver had lost valuable reaction time. Unless the Peugeot was going too fast (impossible to tell from the video), I don’t mind placing the blame firmly on the Morgan driver.

I think you’re wrong, and I’m going to use maths to back myself up:

AA data shows an ABS equipped Peugeot 206 GTi can decelerate from 50Mph-0 in 25 metres. Using some wizardry and mathematics we find it can wipe off (at most) 22mph per second in a best case scenario.

Things we know:
It’s a 70Mph zone.
Morgan pulls into the lane at 9.5 seconds
Impact is at 11.8 seconds.
Things we can guess:
Morgan is going maybe 10mph at most at time of impact.

Most people take 1 second to hit the brakes, that leaves the Peugeot less than 2 seconds to wipe off 60mph or so.

but we can see this 206 isn’t a GTi, and likely doesn’t have ABS, so we can assume that if a GTi still probably hits the slower and heavier versions will hit at a higher velocity.

Well, their brake lights were lit when they come into the frame, so what? You don’t operate the brakes and the horn with the same appendages by the way. You can’t tell how fast the Peugeot was going while out of frame, and that’s the most important factor in this crash.

first the Morgan pulled out, which was dumb and then made matters worse by moving from the cross hatch shoulder into the lane.
