The Jeep lives, neigh, thrives. Who placed bets and what were the odds? Good thing I didn’t bet any one. I would have bet against him.

My God, that sounds like everything is just going to fall off at once. I really hope he’s going to trailer it home.

I honestly thought the Jeep was going to make it except for maybe a few minor shakedown fixes (like the points). But I gotta admit, I lost hope when he reported “catastrophic engine failure” and said “get ready to see some carnage”.

David said Patrick won’t let him drive it back. So I assume it’s going back on the trailer.

To be honest, it didn’t make it the whole way..

(checks his Twitter/IG posts)

It spent at least 400 miles on the trailer between Kansas and Denver.

I’m also now curious why there are no photos or updates between Denver and Moab. Did they do the last 800 miles on a trailer?

I’m still impressed though, that they were able to fix it and experience Moab with it, but I would have been more impressed if they drove the whole way.

I think they did trailer it from Denver to Moab. A 40 mph cruising speed and 800 miles(probably more if he was going to stay off the highways) doesn’t bode well. I think in order to get there and actually participate necessitated trailering it.

Still impressive to go from being completely torn apart a few weeks ago to off-roading at moab.

Yeah, I’m still impressed with what they did, which was drive that thing from Detroit to Kansas.

I would have been nervous driving that thing to the post office.

So much this. I had a 84 Jeep with a 2 inch lift and I could only do about 4 to 5 hours if freeway driving in it.

To be fair, the stuff he didn’t replace was total facepalm. Didn’t replace the distributed cap, rotor, points, nor the timing components while the engine was apart. That should have been the first thing he did. Know it’s going to be the first thing I do.

Yeah, that seems like a major oversight. I can see skipping the timing gears but a new distributor and ignition components is pretty basic.

I got a similar issue with my timing chain. they used nylon gears to reduce noise, problem being after thousands of hot/cold cycles the nylon has a tendency to chip teeth. If it would have been cast iron he probably could have let it slide, but any composites can’t possibly last ~50 years.
