Flame suit? Volvo has sucked at taillights for a very long time. I still can’t get used to the tall D-pillar lights on the wagons, even after 2 decades. They just seem gauche and comically excessive, like something Cadillac would do.

I find every volvo taillight to be extremely good looking except for the s90. Their tall skinny design on wagons and SUVs is gorgeous (To me!) and one of the real unique features that kept the volvo look somewhat cohesive for the past 2 decades.

Because it’s the hipster car guy thing to do. Volvo is the underdog, so they could literally put shit on wheels, and Jaloppo would pull for them, saying it is the greatest car ever made. Having grown up around Volvo’s, they fucking suck. I learned to drift in one, I rode to baseball practice in one, I learned to drive in one. Hell, most of my childhood memories revolve around a Volvo. Even rose-tinted glasses of childhood innocence, doesn’t shield the fact that they are collectively shitty cars.

The last Volvo I was in was a 2002 S60 with a blown turbo. It had it’s problems, but I will say they do know how to make a seat. My friend traded it in on a Lexus Ct200h.

The rear of the S90 will almost certainly not age well. It already looks like a design from 2012 or 2013. I think the front looks excellent though.

I figured it out. In 3 simple steps they could make the rear look normal.
1. take out the dip (crease?) running horizontally between the bottom notches of the tail light lens
2. change the V O L V O to just a regular emblem, or nothing
3. Possibly make the top parts of the lights not extend onto the trunk lid, because that usually just doesnt look good.
Boom, boring but not actively ugly

On a related note: the Swedish built regular S90 was short lived for the US. Next year the US gets the Chinese built extended wheelbase S90.

Seriously? Those new taillights of theirs on their crossovers and the new V90 wagon are magnificent. It’s the best design trait Cadillac ever borrowed for their current-gen Escalade.

the creases seem to clash with the rest of the car. Tail lights are cool. Kind of glad they didn’t go all the way across since a lot of automakers have been going that route.
