Took all of 15 minutes and I think they look a lot better than the ones that the car came with. They should have come like this from the factory. I actually got the kindeys from BMW. It’s a big improvement over this:

This is now the third BMW I’ve put black kindeys on.

The M3:

The E90 M3 actually uses the same kidneys as the E92, despite it being a sedan. The E90 and E92 kindeys are usually different, however because the E9X M3s all use the same front bumper , the kidneys are all the same despite being slightly different chassises.

The 135is:

For Christmas in 2015, I gave my dad some black kidneys for the 135is. He usually doesn’t want for much and if he does he buys it. I figured he wasn’t going to buy them for himself so I figured it’d be a good gift.

Good choice. I am not a big fan of the chrome trim kidneys. If mine had come with them I would have done the same.

It’s a big improvement over this. I really disliked the chrome.

I did this on my black E46, but haven’t done it on my blue one.. not sure why. I think I did a rattle can job on the old one and it worked great. Satin black was just about right.

Now that I have a fourth car, stuff like this will never get done. Too many mouths to feed!

I thought about doing something like that but I really wanted them to match the shadowline trim that I’ve got on both cars so I figured it was worth it to buy them.

I think when I did it, they were kind of falling apart - only a few of the clips were still there. So I figured, I’ll try it and if it sucks I need new ones anyway. I think I bought new ones just before selling it, so they didn’t fall out when you shut the hood.

Does that model have the shield sealing off the nose to the radiator? I can’t get to the back of my grills I’m worried about breaking all the clips taking it out.

It doesn’t, I just undid those four bolts and pulled the bumper back a little.

I actually quite like the chrome kidneys on my black-ish car. Different tastes, I guess.

I think they look fine on a dark colored car, but not so much on a silver one.

Also, is that your actual license plate?

Yep, it is. I wanted something with RÜG . EN at first, as that’s the name of the island, but the lady just smiled at me and said that those are long gone. And even if somebody dies, they get traded for hard cash. So I asked if E 61 was free, and there you go.

I think the kindney thing is similar to dark wheels. I plastidipped the shitty winter wheels on my silver Honda black, and the result was quite pleasing. I wouldn’t put black wheels on the new car, not enough contrast. I’m still thinking about what to do/or even if with the silver BMW 5-spoke 16 inch alloys I have for winter wheels.
