Summer will be upon us soon. Summer is a time to drive. We’ll try to arrange a nice weekend-long (or more, if you wish) cruise through a great driving area. Latter half of June. Thoughts/suggestions are very welcome, as are people. Suggested starting location: Munich. I’ll update when plans get more concrete.

When costs are an issue; cars can be shared, as can hotel rooms (or tents for that matter).

Mister 4muddyfeet suggested he might have a free place to stay in Milan for up to 6 people.

Note that I only mentioned Munich as a starting location as I will be there anyway and it’s got a major airport. It’s merely a suggestion, better alternatives are as always very welcome.

Sounds fun, too bad the dates you guys suggested on whatsapp are in the middle of my exam period. Maybe I can join, if my exams are before that, but I’m not counting on that.

I’m in, just have to decide whether to do just the weekend, or turn it into something longer.

Depending on how many are in we could start with a weekend and add a few days for those who’re interested. Or, and I’d be more likely to choose this option; weekdays with a few and ending with a weekend with more people.

I personally have to be back in NL around June 27 or so, and my girlfriend will take the last week of June off. Preparing my full time return to University I’ve currently got all the time in the world (other than my German course). Looking at what’s convenient for me and just me, I’d say 20-25 June or so would be the most convenient to me. But I’m somewhat flexible.

I was thinking of a two day sprint through the Black Forest and along the Alpenstrasse towards Munich, and a larger detour through Italy/Switzerland afterwards (so not fully heading back to Munich). Days/direction/order don’t really matter to me, I can take time off anywhere between mid June and early July.

Well, I will have to go back to the NL via Munich as I’ll have to pick up my girlfriend who lives there. But LPG is cheap, I don’t mind taking a detour. Assuming the CTi isn’t done by then.

Think I should be able to come along, almost certainly a long weekend, depending on dates might be able to do some of the week too.

Take the Porsche... The Pao is not up to par with the fun mountain roads provide :)

There’s still time for a manual swap and a turbo for added HP.

Which dates would and would not be possible for you?

When will you know if/when you’ve got time?

Probably in a week or 2, though it might be sooner, as a new system should allow us to see schedules and exam dates sooner.

Around the end of June you say? Might finally (!) have a car by then... I don’t know what my schedule allows me though.

I almost bought a 2002 Turbo for 14k$ 4 years ago... Do I fucking think I’m a dumbass for not buying it instead of wondering about maintenance at the time?? Fuck yes!

What are you planning to buy?

A couple of cars in my area I maybe will take a look at, but a BMW E46 coupe in the color and with the options I want is for sale caught my attention.

Apart from some minor details like the black wheels and ugly mirrors it’s the car I want.

The last of decent looking BMWs, IMHO. Pricey though, more than twice what I paid for my then 3 year younger 406. I had a great deal though.

Do you have someone to take with you when looking at a car? Someone who knows cars?

Yeah, it’s rather pricey for what it is and I don’t know if the dealer is shady or not. But the next weeks until the 5th of June will be both busy and important for me because of stupid exams.

The uncle of a friend said he would come look at cars with me if I asked him, iirc he even has a lift or knows someone with a lift.

Let’s just hope the awesomeness of a Turbo being near my project once in a while is somewhat contagious.

Kinja'd!!!

According to the owner a turbo isn’t as much fun as a tii anyway. It’s a huge on/off button.

You could use the lift of the seller. If you can’t find anyone to go with you, ask Thomas. He might not have a lot of time but I bet he’d like to help. Not that he’s an experienced older car buyer, but he is a wrencher.

A doctor might not have the most spare time but he really did seemed competent and seemed like he knew what he was talking about.

I think anything after the 15th is clear. I’ve got a work thing in London on the 15th so that would be super handy for flights, but easy enough to sort for the next couple of weekends too.
