Are there any 3rd party warrantee services that are worth anything? Ive given up trying to find a cpo xc70 but i still want some coverage for expensive parts costs should there be a problem. Any out there that are not just hot garbage?

Looks like Carmax has a couple of decent XC70's. You could email them and see what the warranty price is.

They’re all based on two bits of math:
1) The insurance company’s estimate on average cost of repair, plus some extra profit
2) Dealer profit.
The cost of an extended warranty on a vehicle will give you a good indication of how likely it will be for stuff to break, and how expensive it will be to fix things when they do break.
From a math perspective, you’re better off skipping the warranty and putting the money you would spend on it into a low-risk investment. If something does break, you have funds saved to pay for it. If nothing breaks, you have extra cash available for down payment $$$ on the next one.

Well I could put $2000 into an investment but even a good investment at 3 years isn’t going to pay for a $4500 service if a $2000 part goes.

Right, your $2k will not pay for a $4k part, if one of those breaks.
Statistically speaking, however, it’s more likely to cost <$2k in repairs over the term of the warranty. You’re basically gambling against the house here. They know the odds, and they will make $$$. You might come out ahead, but more than likely not.

Truth but I like my odds. Given that the car im replacing had $11,000 in fuel system work in 40k miles, it only takes one of those.
