I got Continental TrueContacts off Tirerack to be installed and aligned by Firestone. I’ll do a post of the painting process and with the wheels on later. My last decision is regular ($80) or lifetime alignment ($170). I’m thinking lifetime but would appreciate some advice and thoughts on it.

Are you doing any suspension work to your car? I sorta wish I would have sprung for lifetime, as I have replaced tie rod ends (alignment needed), and need new struts & shocks (alignment needed). Probably would have paid for itself in a couple years or so.

Probably in the future, everything is fine now but I’ve got 138000 miles on what I’m assuming is original everything. I plan on keeping it for a few more years and will probably hit 200,000 before I’m done with it so probably will be doing suspension or steering work eventually.

Years ago when I had my Park Avenue Ultra, the steering wheel was perpetually cocked left on center, and it would get that way within 4 weeks of an alignment along with the front geometry always getting out of whack. Everything was fine up front wear wise, they could never figure out why it couldn’t hold an alignment.

I took firestone to the cleaners on a lifetime alignment plan. I made appointments a month in advance and the guys knew my name. It was pretty hilarious.

What does “liftetime” really apply to? Can you just go in every year and have them reallign? Change suspension components often and just go back for free whenever? Or is there some limits?

I’m asking them that later but it says every 6000 miles or whenever you need it.
