I was just driving around Providence and saw a kinda scuzzy 80 series Land Cruiser sitting on the lot of one of the city’s towing companies, and it got me thinking: if I had to make an evil twin for my daily driver FZJ80, what would I do?
I hate to be cliche, but it instantly went to what is seemingly the most popular place in the automotive world: LS swap.
What I’d like to do is build an LS swapped FZJ80 with a T56, do the part time 4wd mod, gear it for the highway and build myself a touring LC. Make around 400hp, maybe a 17 or 18" wheel with some more road-focused tires than the BFGs on my truck, rear seat entertainment for Thunderbolt Junior.
I haven’t seen an LS/stick swapped 80, but I think it would be a ton of fun. To that end, I’m going to swing by that yard Friday and see if that Cruiser is still there...maybe it’s got a blown engine and good seats, it would be double useful to me as a parts truck and project.

It depends on what kind of evil we’re talking about. If were talking about a car doing my evil bidding for me, I would get an RS3 and do all of the most aggressive tunes/mods, and get it in flat black.
If were just talking about an evil in general version of my dd, it would be a white A3 convertible that plays nothing but “Barbie Girl” though the stereo. I’d drive it right off a cliff.

there IS a truck, just outside of town, that is an EXACT twin for how my truck looked when i bought it 18 years ago.,
BUT building a bigger better truck, is always fun......
i’d round up one of the thick walled tall deck big block chevy engines from the far end of the yard, and send it off to the machinist, and buy a stroker kit(crank rods pistons) and build a 630-ish cube big block. put some aftermarket chinaman heads on it, and a tunnel ram on it. might be in at around $7k. then take one of the 4 speed iron car transmissions in the yard, and stuff it in the parts truck.(71 longbed)
not mine, but a dead ringer..... and some fat wide wheels and tires, and have something that is a blast to take through the corners, and off from the lights.......

Speaking of “evil twins”, though...
There’s a guy in my area who has what I sometimes think of as the “evil twin” to my Mustang, but in a different way from what you’re talking about.
They’re both red GT models, but his is a ’96, mine’s a ’95. He’s got the 4.6 & vertical taillamps, I’ve got a 302 and horizontals. He’s got fake Brembo caliper covers, I’ve upgraded to actual Cobra brakes. His paint is a nice red w/ black accents, mine is faded to almost a pink color.

There a really beat up black 525i I keep seeing around town that’s been given the treatment normally reserved for 1996 Civics. For every bit my car looks nice and clean and stock this thing is abused and questionably modified. Blacked out grille, tinted lights, poorly dipped wheels, dents all over... and I’m sure it’s an automatic too which is evil enough as it is.

I would have gone gunmetal if my Cruiser wasn’t two tone, I just really didn’t want the wheels to match the lower half. Two cans of Plastidip and a weekend, it was actually super easy once I got used to it.
On the black though, I think my white letters and the new chrome lugs pay dividends. I saw a picture of one the same color as my truck with black wheels and it looked gross, but he had blackwalls and black lugs.
If you can’t find a color of dip you like, Rustoleum makes ‘primer’ that you can paint any Rustoleum paint over and it makes it removable, which is pretty cool.

the thing that amazes me, is that old trucks just dont go out of style. i was thinking that about the only thing that the honest twin needed, was that extra gear, and a bit more torque....
those El cheapo chinaman heads make some decent power, they just usually have issues with having port sizes, and shapes that give up power(flow numbers). the big cubes make up for it, and a guy can always cam a big engine to optimize what flow is there..... entertaining stuff to mull over.......
