Meaning a thought and photo dump, plus I guess if you want to dump on it metaphorically as well you can do it here too.

So what do you think?

Also of note: “Meanwhile, the company said, a four-wheel-drive system with low range could assist a production FT-4X in cashing the check written by the chunky 12-spoke 18-inch wheels and knobby Goodyear tires.” At least according to chats with Car and Driver.

Look, I think Toyota should TOTALLY chase the renegade and XV markets. And I think there could be a lot to love here. Tone down the lunar colony 2037 icecream truck vibe and dump the lame details and they could really be onto something.

That being said, Toyota has a history of cool concepts with dumb ideas and turning them into lame cars with the all the worst of the dumb ideas rendered in plastic.

My hopes are low but its still interesting.

FYI - if you didn’t know this is based on the C-HR and is targeted at the C segment (compass/patriot)

Why should we build them a Dash when all of them have a 3-4 inch screen in their pocket we can make them use?

Its like the child of a Kia Soul + Jeep Renegade saw a Honda Element and decided “Thats what I want to be when I grow up!”

“It hurt my soul” Toyota wishes it could hurt some Soul sales.

I like it. It’ll be toned down for production and I’d consider one.

Kill it. Kill it with fire. That’s the most over-stylized POS I’ve seen in a long time.

LOL @ “lunar colony 2037 icecream truck”

People are whining that it’s not a body-on-frame capital-T Truck platform like the FJ. But the reality is that for the target market of people who strap some shit on the roof like a kayak or bike or snowboard (does anyone who snowboards enough to strap one on the roof not drive a WRX though?) don’t care about a truck platform and mostly want a car that is a car but can take them slightly off the beaten path to the parking lot for their outdoorsy activity of choice.

I like how cleverly hidden the rear door is on the exterior. Until I saw the inside, I thought it was a two door vehicle. That said, I’m not a huge fan of it, but it is interesting. Once thing Toyota needs is something interesting in the show room. Overall, it’s so bland right now, it hurts.

Hence the popularity of the xv, despite it being ugly and slow

You know, looking at the snowflake and flame on different sides of the liftgate, I have to know. Is that a mini-fridge/warmer tandem? If so, that’s pretty damn cool. Well, cool for the first person who buys it. And a nightmare for every owner thereafter.

My wife went with the Impreza hatch because the only thing we strap on the roof is a once-a-year Christmas tree, and she preferred the lower ride height and no plastic cladding. “What’s all that ugly black stuff stuck on that one for?”

I like dis. Obviously a lot of these details would/will be toned down if/when this makes it’s way to production. It could land in the realm of cars I’d consider buying, but it probably wont. Because I want a manual and hot hatch acceleration and 30ish mpg. But man do I want more space and a little more rugged sensibility than my FoST offers.

It’s hilariously overstyled, but it does have some neat aspects. I like the headlights and the headlight surround; it looks like ski goggles on a pug.

And the interior is really nice. That single-spoke steering wheel is a thing of beauty.

Almost everything else is some degree of terrible though.

And I have to wonder: are the panels over the rear windows one-way or removable?
