And Chevrolet will still sell you a brand new Express with sealed-beam headlights.

I mean, if they work why change it. You don’t buy a van for the styling.

Don’t think of it as a shitty combined bulb and reflector, think of it as a canvas, on which to paint something. Like, say, some Grotes.

I still think the Movano should replace the Express like the Transit replaced the E-Series or the Promaster replaced the Sprinter which replaced the Ram Van.

I think it’s actually aged well, it’s most similar to what I think of when I think van

Alternative thought, parts must be very plentiful and cheap for these

only van you can still buy new to tow 10,000 lbs!

everything else now is like 7000 iirc

which means its the only van available able to tow an enclosed race trailer with car

which means race van!

Yeah - it’s a big part of the reason they are still selling new. A lot of fleet buyers know the truck inside and out making troubleshooting easy and have stockpiles of parts. Same way taxi fleets kept the Panther platform alive forever. Regulations eventually killed the Crown Vic and the 1500 version of the Express, but the 2500/3500 are still here.

That’s probably a big part of the reason they’ve kept it around. I don’t see these things towing too often, but I see more Express vans with utility trailers than any other brand of vans. Plumbing and carpeting contractors mainly.

Yep. The 2008+ interiors are a surprisingly decent place to be too after they added in some bits from the GMT900 pickups/SUV’s.

And why not? It’s much cheaper to fix when your fleet drivers/site machinery/forklift driver inevitably shoves it in.

#1, they don’t own them anymore, #2, I’d rather an Express thanks.

Fleet companies love it. They can get a sealed beam anywhere.

I see a lot of vans in my daily commute. Most of them are still E-Series. I imagine when the E-Series dies they’ll all be replaced by the Express.

While the more modern van might work for some industries, I don’t think you can really beat the rock solid reliability and ease to work on of a BOF van.

I’d argue that you can get a 9005 bulb anywhere too, which is what the upgraded version with the “chrome bumper package” uses. 9005 bulbs are the same price as the sealed beams too. But the fleet companies probably have warehouses full of sealed beams from back when the E-series and the Express as well as the F-Series XL and Chevy X/T trucks had them which wasn’t all that long ago.

These kinds of things matter. After witnessing one of our forklift drivers put a fork through the back window of one of our pickups, I can assure you we won’t be buying a new Ford with that seamless sliding rear window.

Short answer: No. Somewhat longer answer: Chevy by and large makes acceptable workhorse vehicles. I’ve owned a few and driven many more. For the most part, they have cheap interiors and outdated technology but drive well enough, don’t break down too much and are priced well. They make very few truly great vehicles. The Corvette and full-size SUV Tahoe/Suburban are the stars of the lineup and those wouldn’t make much sense in Ireland. They aren’t exactly rubbish, but you aren’t missing anything all that special by not getting them.
