I have no idea how anyone ever could have believed this. A 6-foot tall object disappears from view after just a couple miles (at sea, or on flat ground). That’s something that should have been pretty obvious to sailors since the earliest days, but hey. Today you just take a commercial flight on a clear day. At cruising altitude, you can clearly make out the curvature of the earth.

Sometimes you have to pick your battles and when someone osnthis ignorant and set in their “faith” the only outcome in participating is a loss so you have to “win” by ignoring them and moving on. I’ve encountered the flat earth society faithful before and it’s a losing battle for me too. I’ve been calling this recent age with immediate access to Google as the Age of Feigned Ignorance.
There is too much information and data, we question some things, but not others and our ‘internal religion’ sometimes supersedes all logic and reason.
I once asked a person why the last major Ice Age ended? How did it end with no humans around? Science has a number of reasons why, but I just wanted this person to engage in a debate as to why they thought it. They were unable to even come up with a solid answer, but they were armament about other issues they’ve seen on the news or in web blogs.
I have folks in my office that still try to breathe live into a program that was designed in 1995. I refuse to teach it or even acknowledge it in hopes folks will get away from their ancient program and use more modern and faster technology. It is their comfort. They won’t get away from what they know, even if it is a steam engine vs my combustion engine.
There is a concern that folks aren’t looking up any more...they are looking down at their phones and not seeing the bigger picture.
