So I want to get a CA motorcycle permit because I’ve been interested in riding, but the DMV site seems very vague, it just says to

“Start by calling your local DMV office to make an appointment to apply for your license and take the written motorcycle licensing exam.”

Am I being stupid and it is referring to a permit when it says license?

Also yes I know i have to take a safety course because I’m under 21, my dad is a motorcycle instructor and knows some good places and he’ll be teaching me a lot before I even leave the block.

I don’t know about CA but where I live you take the written license exam get your permit then have 12 months to pass the road test. This is how all 3 states I’ve lived in have worked.

Probably the case, I just hate how a permit is referred to as a license, I would understand temporary or restricted license, but just license? That’s just begging for confusion

The easiest thing is to just tear your current licence in half...but only vertically not horizontally. Use both halves for driving and only one half for riding

Yup, just need a written test for the temporary license which is colloquially known as a “permit.”

I moved to CA a while ago already with my motorcycle endorsement, but I know there is 2 licenses. One for up to 50 cc, basically a scooter and the full license. The confusion might lie there.

What have you got for a ride?

I’d love to ride my dad’s aprilia or his bmw s1000 but I’d break my head, so I get to ride the ninja, nice small bike that’s easy to learn on. Though I would love a honda rebel.
