Awesome when someone points out and harps on a mistake you made and makes your already non-existent self-esteem and self-confidence even worse.

Post Mazdas to cheer me up?

Happens to the best of us my man. Don’t let it bother you, the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago and after a few days everything was back to normal.

Been there. Eventually left that company. Recently an ex-coworker told me that the person who had been responsible for my misery fell off a horse and broke her pelvis. “I think ... I’m glad that ... she’s still alive?” is the best reply I could come up with.

Have some wagony goodness to cheer you up. Oh wait, they don’t sell those over here. Sorry.

Don’t let anyone else tell you what you’re worth. Those that try to being you down are usually trying to build themselves up.

Dude, I know how that feels. The problem is good work is expected and mistakes are picked on. Then you have those moments that you work a little harder and there isn’t a thank you for trying a bit more.

I can empathize. A few weeks ago I was asked to a lunch meeting to present some changes to our database. When I got there they ordered lunch for everyone but me. Then one of the senior partners asked that I leave and come back when they are done eating! I felt like a big piece of trash that day!

I’m confident that you should be more confident. At an Oppo’s glance, you’re raising a family with two new Mazda’s in the driveway. You must be doing more than a few things right!

I love that RX-2, too. Both cool little cars/trucks. Sucks when co-workers are terrible. My company is a mess these days, but luckily, I at least like the people I’m dealing with. Been there, done that—

Yea, shitty work situations are just that. When I have a bad day at work I try to remind myself how much more my life sucked in previous jobs where I was getting terrible pay to commute 2 hours per day. Hard sometimes though.

I learned early on in my career that the people I worked with are always the deciding factor in whether I am happy in a job or not. But in any job, you occasionally run into some assholes, as Mazda616 has.

Your story here is just bizarre. Almost seems accidental, like they forgot to order you food so they sent you away to allay their guilt.

That is what I keep telling myself, but I have already had a run in or two with the partner in question. Hes actually not a bad guy, hes just one of those people who thinks I’m a second class citizen because I’m not a “revenue generating employee”, and treats me as such. I do like most of the people I work with, I think my biggest problem is that I am bored to tears most days! I like to be busy, too much time to think is bad for yours truly haha.

Ah, let me guess - you’re in IT or another support function in a law firm/consulting firm or something like that? I know a few people who have done that, and being treated as 2nd class is a common theme - and it varies greatly depending on the partner. Being bored = more Oppo time! But yeah, being bored is really bad for me, too...

You got IT. Consultants 8-6, law-firms nights and weekends... I really much more enjoy working with my hands. I’m thinking about taking a part time gig at a lumber yard, but I don’t think my wife is into me working more hours haha.

To be honest I really like my company and most of them really like me, but they won’t give me a review. They won’t say they won’t, my boss just won’t give me a straight answer. I’m comfortable talking to any of the senior guys about it, but that means going over my bosses head and I’m not quite comfortable with that yet. I’ve been there 3.5 years and I’ve kept a long list of my successes and failures. More than ready for the discussion, I just can’t seem to get the opportunity.

04/11/2017 at 19:09, STARS: 0

It would drive me bananas to not get a review at least annually - but if the people are mostly decent, and you’re getting decent $ for work that you get some satisfaction out of, it’s not so bad. Sounds like you may have to go over your boss’ head to get one, but that’s certainly taking a risk that you may not want—
