My guess is that’s an NSA tracker.

To be serious, an external regulator or diode trio. A year, make and model car would make this much easier to figure out. This is like when I have customer walk in and ask for an alternator. I ask what kind of vehicle and they say “Chevy”. I then say “what type Chevy?... they say “car”. I then say “what model?” and they say “its not a model car, it’s a real car” etc etc.

That’s what I was thinking, but I’ve never seen an external regulator that had a wire going to the post. Pretty sure this is the Jag XJ6

If its ever been rebuilt by a smaller rebuilder I’ve seen external grounds from semi-universal ones done that way. A small local electrical motor shop did one like that on a Saab I’d owned with a Marchal alternator.

It’s a 1976 alfa romeo spider. It’s not the regulator because that’s mounted on the firewall.

Was first thinking brush holder but it looks offset too much in picture. I’m betting its a Bosch 45 amp alternator. Back then some had just a brush holder and others an integrated regulator and brush assembly. Looking again at the picture it may also be the rectifier bridge but can’t find enough info on the older alternator or a good picture, most replacements change style.
