And he almost did it right by starting on an R3 but then jumped to the daytona 675R after just a few months. I know they’re similar displacement but you’d think something like a FZ6R or ninja 650 would be next instead of the high strung 600cc supersport with double the power of the more relaxed 650 sport bikes (ninja 650 has about 70hp, daytona 675 has over 125, R3 has under 40).

This reminds me of an idiot squid I encountered yesterday. I’m driving on a regular, 2 lane busy city road.
I’m in the left lane doing 10 over the speed limit and a squid on his crappy custom bike (no rear view mirrors, license plate on sideways and other stupid looking mods) passes me on the left... which is to say he crossed the yellow line.
He could have passed me on the right... but given that this is a road with lots of pedestrians, street car tracks, cars parked on the side and other stuff, going much faster isn’t a good idea.
But then I can’t say I’m surprised given the idiotic customizations I saw on the motorcycle he was driving.
There were tons of idiots on two wheels out this past weekend... and the idiot I encountered is part of the minority of motorcyclists that make the whole group look bad.
Peter, I know you’re into bikes. I like them too. But there are way too many idiots out there on 2 wheels.
They don’t seem to understand that while being on a bike makes you look cool, stunting, crossing the yellow line and other stupid shit takes you from looking cool to looking like an uncool idiot squid.

ehhhhhhhh.......yes and no. the idiots are the only ones you notice. you probably wont notice the guy just going to and from work like a regular person. you only notice the idiots that do stupid shit and piss you off, and complain that there are too many dumb riders. you even acknowledge this yourself.
also, believe me, the rest of us riders hate them too. you know how ricers and stance ppl make the general car scene look really bad? yes, these guys are the same in our world. we despise and hate them with a passion, and try everything we can to either get rid of them or minimize the damage done. Why do you think i teach riding? while the paycheck is kinda nice, i just want ppl to be safe. (or at least reasonably responsible)
IIRC, you are in the TO area? please, come hang out (and ride) with me and some of my friends. (one of which is an Oppo here too). meet some cool peeps who dont act like jackasses on bikes (not when its crowded anyways. mmmm, 2 am ramps)

havent ridden either, but i DID ride the Z800.
it felt pretty heavy to me (its like 500lbs, my suzuki is 400) but scoots pretty well. the 900 is a little more speed, little less weight
FZ-09. first gens had some HORRID fueling and suspension issues. the fueling was fixxed, but suspension wasnt. second gen further fixxed fueling and did something about suspension, and added ABS, but it is pretty fucking ugly (and this coming from the guy who likes the MT-10, Z1000, etc etc)

yep. the two worst segments of motorcyclists:
1) the dentists and lawyers who bought Street Glides because they wannabe Sons of Anarchy, and fling attitude at anyone riding anything but a Harley (or even the wrong kind of Harley.) these people also either punch their own tickets riding under the influence (and no helmet, natch) or get scared after an on-road incident and dump the bike for a loss
2) 18-year-old guys who haven’t outgrown their “I’m invincible” phase, buy a sick Gixxer for their first bike, treat highways like a racetrack, and stunt on public roads. Some of these guys (and it’s always guys) live long enough to grow up.

Actually I know exactly where that is... right in front of the Freshco!
I was there a couple of times last year when a meet was going on. Once to go to the Loblaws across the street and once to go to the Tim Hortons that’s right there. And at least one of those times, I was on my bicycle.
I didn’t check it out either of those times as I had to be on my way.
