That lost interest in these movies a long time ago? I think I’m two or three behind at this point and I don’t even care that I haven’t seen the latest ones.

The first few were cool, at least to me then, but these latest ones have gotten so far fetched and so far away from what the movies originally were. Yawn.

I’ve never watched any of them, but aren’t they basically the same story over and over again?

The first few were about racing and such but the later ones are about like international crime rings and James Bond type stuff but on a lesser plot level than Bond movies.

You are not the only one. The only one I’ve seen all the way through was the first one. That was enough.

Honestly, I’m glad the movies got away from the “originals”. The first movie was a great exercise in camp and the second should never be spoken of again. Tokyo drift was “fun” but still kinda campy. Honestly, the fifth one was a legitimately good movie. I loved the chase sequence and the whole film made for a great take on the heist genre. I dare say it was a better heist film than the recent Ocean’s films. Six was meh. Seven.....seven must’ve gone through a script revision where at some point someone asked “How much beefcake and guns can we cram into this movie?”. And I still love it. They might run out of gas for the series, but I still enjoy them.

You’re not the only one. They should’ve stopped after a few of them were made.

Saw the first and then have watched parts of others when they go to cable. Little interest. I did however have to see Tokyo drift after working in paddock with one of the guys who helped build the Mustang from that film. He was part of crew for one of guys at NASA Nationals at Mid-Ohio years back.

Dood I love 2. Its the most fuck it, lets have fun. But to your point about 7, IIRC it was originally written as 2 movies. So yea they shoved double the Furious into it.

The franchise died with Paul Walker for me. I still credit the first The Fast and the Furious as one of the main influences of me getting into cars.

The wife and I visit the local video store sometimes and each pick out movies to rent, and let the kiddos grab their own.

The F&F movies are those that I go “Meh, there’s nothing I really want to see that’s new.... but the latest F&F movie is out so I’ll watch that.”

Usually we have a free rental on our account so I don’t mind wasting money if its bad, but I can’t remember the last time I turned off a movie I rented because it was THAT bad.

I actually enjoy them. With the exception of Tokyo Drift, I think I’ve seen all of them in the theater.

Are they high-quality movies? No. But they are certainly entertaining, feature a nice variety of cars, and a nice way to kill a couple of hours.

Camp/Campy means the movie had a degree of self-awareness either in the writing or the actors that it was a ridiculous plot and they exaggerated certain lines or scenes. Without context, saying something like “I like the tuna here” is a meaningless line. But given the context of the scene, it’s become a bit iconic, even though it’s bad or dumb from a critical standpoint. It’s fun, and memorable.

And to be clear - campy =/= good. Fun for some, yes, but one of the hallmarks of camp is the love it or hate it nature. For example - some people love rocky horror picture show, some of us realize that it’s just a terrible b-movie that tries too hard and it only exists for the social rejects of high school to bond over “loving it”.

Ever since the 5th one I realized they are now action movies and no longer about the cars. And in the 5th one it shows it perfectly, they need new cars, go out looking for a race and then just come back with the cars. Unlike what’s seen in 2fast.

And the cars have gotten more and more unrealistic. There aren’t any modified cars. Just Ferraris and such that they end up blowing up.

Well to be fair the Ferrari caught fire by itself and then blew up.

But very true, these are no longer cars you are building in your garage. They are fabricating them for more than just racing

They’re dumb and stupid and yet I keep going to see them.

The first one came out after my freshman year in college, when I was totally in to the Honda scene with my Integra GSR, and even though the tech dialogue was stupid and incorrect, and the cars had ugly decals all over them, that movie spoke to me .

I was working as a summer camp counselor, and had a few free hours to kill because the campers from my bunk were doing this outdoorsy activity with the outdoor activities people. I just had to meet up with them later that night. So I drove the ~25 minutes to the closest bigger town with a theater, saw F&F, loved it, and motivated by the vehicular hijinks, drove exceedingly fast back to camp just in time to meet up with my campers. I made it just in time and didn’t get pulled over.

They’ve long ago stopped trying to be about the car scene, and they’re dumb, but my group of friends who are still into cars in varying degrees make a habit of seeing them right when they come out, and I go along because I’m now a 34 year old “grownup” with a tweaked-out BMW.

I think #4 was the last one where I was like, I WANNA DRIVE FAST afterward but whatever.

No, I liked the first one but it wasn’t the kind of lasting like where I would want to watch it again after seeing it once. The second and third were okay - at a generous best. Didn’t see 4-6. Caught 7 on TV a few months ago and I’m still trying to figure out who to complain to so I can get those 2 hours back. The writing and acting are fucking horrific. I know there are people who can look past that as long the movie is simply fun. I am not one of those people.

I’m torn on 8 because of one thing, Helen Mirren. I love her and would probably see her in anything, but I know how bad every other single thing in the movie is going to be. I’ll probably wait and waste 2 hours on a Sunday once it’s on HBO or something.
