After almost 5 years of lusting after this thing, I can finally post this headline. Over that time, I’ve gone to university, made tons of new friends, and during that, worked in accounting, construction, and engineering (which is now where I will hang my coat). So after tons of hard work, this is my early graduation present to myself. And, for those wondering:

Thanks! That is exactly what it was for me, my attainable dream car. You’ll have one sooner than you think, and you won’t be disappointed.

Motorcycles are cool, I have a 74 XR75 which I love booting around on at the cottage. But on the road in the GTA, there are too many idiot drivers around, so I’ve stayed off two wheels...

Had some fun on the highway on-and-off ramps on the way home. The real fun will start when I get it up to my cottage within the next month or so. So many great windy roads!

Planning on doing some auto-X as well, and maybe a lapping day or two to start this season.

Thanks! I was thinking about wrapping it in a Lotus Racing Green Metallic type colour (see above) before I picked it up, but seeing the white in person for the first time, the white is really growing on me.

Congrats on the new car. The 86's are fun little cars, you did a good thing waiting to get it as the refresh has fixed most of all the little quibbles about them.

What’s with the shift knob? Looks like it doesn’t quite fit correctly.

Thanks! I’m glad I waited for the ‘17 as well. Love the look of facelift on the outside, and the interior with the leather dash looks miles ahead of the old faux-carbon crap that they had before. Also, I don’t get the hate everyone has for the new cluster, because I freaking love it. Tons of info available on it, and looks sharp as hell (especially at night).

The shift knob does not have the recess for the reverse lockout, so that’s why you can see the plastic sleeve for it. I may pick up a reverse lockout adaptor, or just trim the plastic sleeve.

The wheels are another huge improvement, I hated the way the old wheels looked (although you can easily fix that).

With all the improvements, I’m so happy I waited for a 2017.

I think the new electric gauges are a neat addition, may not be all that useful for everybody (especially once start modding the car) but at least it makes the car feel a little more modern. I still think they should kill the useless speedo gauge though, as that just takes up room that could be used for oil temp, pressure, battery, etc...

Where did you get that shift knob at? Looks neat, but yeah could use an adapter to finish the look at the bottom.

The new LCD screen within the cluster includes expanded info like oil temp, and voltages (from a modding perspective, only an oil pressure gauge would be needed, if you’re tuning more, AFR and boost is always nice when your FI), as well as detailed fuel economy measurements, and the neato but gimmicky performance pages with the power curve graph which shows the torque dip LOL.

Setting up things like the GSI and rev limiter is also easier with the new screen which I like.

Ah, didn’t pay attention to all the stuff that you can access in the new LCD screen, only heard about the near useless g-meter and HP/torque graph. Thanks for he additional info

Cool wooden shifter, bet feels better/cooler in the summer than the heavy steel one I have.

That’s very true. It all feels very surreal to me still, like I’m just borrowing the car for the weekend or something. This morning now it’s just started to set in that it’s actually mine.

Loving it so far, the updates to the 2017 were well worth the wait for sure, especially in the interior and exterior. I’m sure once the break-in period is finished up I’ll appreciate all of the suspension, chassis and powertrain durability upgrades that Subaru made just as much.
