USB power for my 4Runner is half done. The panel and wiring are mostly in place. Lots of little things to do yet.
The fuse block and breaker are in. The USB ports are very expensive Blue Sea 1039 4.8A that mostly plug straight into Toyota switch bays. As the last picture shows, they are a bit big but they work. Most importantly, though, is that they have full power output from both ports, unlike many cheaper units that do 2.1A + 1A on the second port..
I need to get better power cable connectors (the 4 AWG wire I bought probably isn’t really 4 AWG) and get an add-a-fuse to power the relays for the ports.
And the bracket I built from 26-gauge steel needs some reinforcement, it’s a bit floppy.
But I feel a great sense of accomplishment at having started a project that didn’t end in disaster for once!

Yes but no. It’s merely what the plug can supply (if it is asked to by the equipment plugged into it) without melting. Not what the plug supplies all the time. You could plug your 0.25A smart phone into it...no worries

Looks much cleaner than my install. You’ll be happy with those blue sea units, they are well made and not that cheap crap that falls apart a year later.

The only thing I’m concerned about is that the dash-mounted unit will most likely shake out because it’s not snapping in correctly. Maybe I can modify the hole, maybe I’ll just take it in from the back side...
And I hope they’re good, because they cost a fortune!

Don’t modify the hole! It’s the unit. The corners are just a little too square I found out....after I modified one of my holes. Round out the corners on the blue sea

Another plug for Bluesea, to use an overdone cliche, ‘buy once, cry once’, you won’t regret the quality after you’ve forgotten how much it was.
I’ve put a couple of electronic things under my hood, and after a couple years, they look a little corroded. I recommend to use a little of this https://www.amazon.com/Blaster-16-CSP-Heavy-Duty-Corrosion-Stop/dp/B0015DOEKI
It’s available at the big box store in the tool section, or even CRC 2-26 corrosion inhibitor available by the electrical stuff. Spray it on after you’re completely done and leave it be, you’ll be glad you did. After you read the instructions, you’ll be spraying it everywhere!

Hmmm...just found an Oz source for the plug you used. Pricey but even at AU$68 plus delivery, not expensive given its capacity. Though I’d be inclined in my vehicle to go the slightly more expensive round option (BSS 1045)

Any reason you went with a 50A breaker?
8 ports on that bluesea, and you’ve used 15A in the first slot?
I guess you can upgrade later but I hate pulling apart my wiring projects.

I had planned on a 4-port panel but no-one had them in stock. 50A would have been enough. I currently have no plans for 2 of the 4 wires I ran, so I should be good for a while.

I went with the rectangular units because I have plenty of blank switch ports. That voltmeter is tempting though. Please stop giving me ideas.
