Since my last post, I’ve gone through and reduced a lot. This one:

I’ve taken lots of your suggestions to heart, and have dropped down to this:
Largely I’ve just reduced some redundancies, and eliminated a ton of seasonal survival gear I simply don’t need in the summer. I’ve also left out things I don’t need all the time, like the steering lock plate tool. And I’ve decided that if I can’t fix any electrical issue I have with 100' of 16-gauge (enough to carry over 200 amps ten feet) and some spade connectors then I probably won’t be fixing it at all.
For reference, this is what’s getting cut out.
It may not seem like much, but now it’ll all fit between inside the duffle bag and the smaller tool bag, which hopefully means I can get the passenger seat (with the now-smaller duffel bag behind it) to slide about half-way back, freeing up foot room for passengers who aren’t under 5'6. Aside from the two socket sets and the axe which will tuck nicely behind the driver’s seat. This will also leave the middle of the back, on top of the trans tunnel, to put the odd backpack or other item I don’t want bouncing around in the bed. Good work, Gog.

Only thing not included is my phone, which ends up being critical for a lot of installations for testing and verifying wifi or remote access. I work in IT and have done datacenter break/fix, site migrations and ground up installations along with the general site visits for end user support.
None of my coworkers carry a bag at all, which is honestly just sad. It’s why I get overworked, Im the only one prepared to ever be in the field and fix literally any issue that pops up. There is more in my bag than just that picture though, some cables and adapters. Half of the flash drives are linux or windows bootable images for software tools when needed, also something only I keep in my bags. The only thing I dont readily carry is Windows Server discs, and I certainly need to change that moving ahead.

Honestly the backpack was a super inefficient way to carry stuff. It’s a laptop bag with a ton of small compartments so everything in it was organized but totally wasting space. I’m happy to have it back, cause it’s great for bike groceries. When it’s empty, you can drop a Molson Cube into the largest compartment with a couple two-sixes on either side. It’s great.

Oh yes, it’s glorious for splitting. It’s also better at general axe work (felling, clearing deadfall) than any other axe I’ve used, although I haven’t had the opportunity to try out its felling brother. It also gets questionable looks when people realize I keep an axe that brutal behind my seat in my daily, but I’ve started warning people before they get in now. It’s a pretty brutal looking axe for people not familiar with axes.

I had to clear a large bough off the road on a country lane after a container lorry (must’ve got lost!) managed to rip it from the trunk. I only had the Fiskars and a pruning saw with me so the axe it was. I’d never used it as a felling axe before but it was absolutely superb. For a few weeks afterwards I went all Paul Bunyan and left the chainsaws in favour of the axe for felling. It’s a really versatile and well-balanced bit of kit, and I always though someone would have to tear my Gränsfors Bruks splitter from my cold dead hands.

Nicely done. I’m still envious. Probably because your reduced toolkit is still better than basically my entire basement workshop...
Are you sure you don’t need a source of fire? I’d keep the bbq lighter or maybe get a box of strike-anywhere matches.
And I just realised you don’t have a first-aid kit in there. You might want to consider adding that - I believe every car should have one.

I usually just push trees off the road with my truck, but I’m lazy like that. I picked mine up after I found out a buddy had been using his 17" splitter for ten years, never sharpened it, and we were splitting frozen pine over a foot in diameter with it no problem.
I carry mine with me in the backcountry. It’s very light for what it is, and great for clearing deadfall off trails.

There’s a source of fire and a backpacker’s first aid kit in the glovebox. Although you’re probably right and I should be carrying something more complete.
This stuff generally doubles as my shop tools as well. I haven’t had a proper shop for a long time, though. The rest of my, er, collection, has been living in my basement. Drills, saws, air compressor and tools, ball joint press, various pressure testers, etc. Unfortunately I had to leave my larger things, engine hoist, trans jack, engine stands, etc, back at a friend’s place before moving out here. It’s all mostly harbour-freight-level or store-brand type stuff because I’m cheap and don’t need it all that often, and mostly been obtained before a project I’ve needed it for because I’ve discovered that it’s cheaper and more rewarding to do stuff myself than to pay someone else to do it for me. I just need to find somewhere with a garage...

that is a nice usable set of tools that you have there. should be able to fix most stuff that you CAN fix while on the side of the road with that there. make sure to keep the axe within easy reach........ so that if you NEED it, like say when youre at the gas station........
