Update: so it’s not a fuse. It appears to be a CANbus issue, according to the code reader (p1612). Also, as soon as you plug in the reader everything works perfectly. Edit 2: when you pull the key out, the brake lights come on, including the center brake light.

The plot thickens.

Hello oppos, my mom’s 06 Mini turbo s convertible dash is dead. The tach, speedo, all the gages, all the dash lights, the little screen and the convertible roof are dead. The defroster is on high. The car has the dash option with the dash and speedo on the column and more gages in the center roundel.

The window switches and blinkers (but not the blinker lights) and other exterior lights work. The car starts and drives fine.

Anyone have any ideas?

Change the battery recently? Seems to be issues with them not liking certain batteries in the mini forums. Have you checked with a scan tool for trouble codes?

Fuses all been checked? Look into it, some cars have “hidden” fuses in awkward places seperate to the main boxes.

I helped a neighbour when their clio sat nav failed, turns out it had a fuse hidden behind some dash trim.

Sounds like a fuse. Check 5, 9, 21 and 30.

Considering how much is affected, I would focus on 21, since it’s 10A. It sounds like a central computer for the dash is down.

Been there, done that in a C3.

Handbook mentioned fusebox under bonnet and under dash. Extracted and checked every fuse twice at the cost of several skinned knuckles. Looked up internet, found second concealed box under dash.

It’s not a fuse I think. Does anyone have a ecu pin out diagram or a wiring diagram?

Like others have said it is probably a fuse. Now to nitpick, an 06 Cooper S is supercharged, not turbocharged.

First you need a pentagram of British Racing Green Candles, now light the candles and recite the following.

“Lord Lucas, Prince of Darkness most high and exalted of the automotive angels, please remove thy self from my brakelights, I offer in return the navigation system and glove box light”

Add in an incantation to the arch angel Bosch, and youd be all set

I had a similar issue on my R53. If you have a multimeter I would check every single fuse. Mine ended up being a random fuse that didnt seem like it would be a problem but turned out it was a big part of the system.

We did exactly that. It’s a CANbus problem

I’m sure it’s just a cynical way of getting you to go to the dealer.

I once had all kinds of things go haywire in my clubman. Dealer said the TPMS board was shorting out the CAN bus. So you could have a bad board somewhere.

This could be extremely difficult to diagnose. Keep hoping for the obvious wiring glitch, but you may need a scope and some service manuals.

Mine kept reading as a canbus issue. Even had it scanned with one of those super crazy expensive BMW computers and it said that too. Damn 5amp fuse.
