A lot of social media sites ban children under 13 from signing up, for reasons other than what happened in this article, but still, it’s good rule to keep children off social media for a huge variety of reasons.

After reading that, my first question is why does an 11 yo have a girlfriend? Call me old or old fashion, but seems a bit early to have a girlfriend. Then my next question is, what kind of relationship does the kid have with his parents that he wouldn’t at least let them know that his “girlfriend” killed herself. I would think that would be a natural course of action if the relationship was solid between parent and child. And WTF kind of fucked up prank is that those twisted fucks pulled? Faking a suicide? What assholes. So sad all around.

That is unbelievably sad. This kid probably had other issues going on that weren’t being addressed beyond being in love with a girl he thought killed herself. TBH I think your title is very callous. I’m not trying to be confrontational. But as a former student of psychology I have to point out that mental illness is no joke and this poor dude was probably suffering long before this happened. It makes me wonder if his family was out-of-touch or in denial about where he was at mentally.

It’s a little different when you’re signing up for something and creating an account, as opposed to just clicking a button on your way in. I’ve seen accounts get booted for violating age guidelines. Sure most people won’t get caught, but you might be surprised how many do.
