I wanted to love it. And I did for the bulk of it. But something about the last episode felt weird and exploitative. Like it wasn’t a direction they should have gone.

I agree. The last episode felt out of place. I know that knowing more about the piercings let you in on the amount of mental anguish and pain he suffered but the rest of the episode wasn’t enough to pull out of that depressing narrative.
There also seemed to be no closure in Mary Grace and the cousins and definitely no closure on the Tyler Goodson front. Oh well :-/
