Yeah... She’s that person who tries to help every living creature even if it’s detrimental in the long run. I don’t agree, but it is fascinating to see them come as families and grow up over generations. I’m an animal nerd haha

With enough exposure I bet those allergies will dry right up. Then you’ll only be allergic to other peoples’ cats.

I was extrmely allergic to cats up until a few months ago. Actually, I was allergic to lots of things until recently. But I’ve had 2 cats for over 2 years now and allergies just suddenly stopped from one day to the other... And all my allergies actually disappeared, including the ones that had nothing to do with cats (pollens...etc).
No idea why, but my guess would be that the prolonged forced exposure to cats is responsible for that...

Huh... I rescued the cat but brought him to a family members home, so no prolonged exposure... Might have to try that!
Especially if it took care of pollen. This season has been rough

First season with NOTHING for me... Genuinely astonishing! It happened this year when they started to sleep with me and my wife in bed sometime... I can rub cats on my face now and nothing at all. Just 9 months ago, merely holding a cat for 2 minutes would make me cry, destroy my throat and kill my nose...

IIRC, nobody is actually allergic to cats but the things that they sometimes carry around in their fur, which can change. I could be wrong though, I haven’t looked it up.

No, it’s their saliva... It’s not the fur per se, allergens are coming from their saliva and since they spend their time licking themselves.......

I love Raccoons, they used to come on the deck when I was a kid, very cool animals. I was allergic to cats when I was kid and I have no idea now, I have always had dogs.

I remember in elementary school a kid telling everyone he was allergic to peanuts. No one believed him so he ate a peanut. Was not pretty (he was fine the next day, but did go to the hospital)

It is facinating. But racoons are also dangerous. Growing up, we had to worry about them attacking our cats (our cats were barn cats) and camping out in the hay loft, etc.
Now I have my own outdoor cat, and of course my wife is her favorite because she has the worst allergies of any of us.
