I can’t decide where I sit with the raptor. I mean, its got all the cool stuff a person would do to their personal truck with the money, and its backed with a warrantee and extensive testing, and its got stuff a DIYer wouldn’t be able to do anyway...but...the fact that they roll off an assembly line and you can find 10 just like yours at any given time. I don’t know. Maybe jelly?

Well there are certainly ways to make it your own. I think I am just starting to become a little disillusioned at the “throw money at it” approach to off roading these days. There are trucks out there pushing 100 grand in truck and mods that are undeniably cool from the comfort of the instgram app, but man alive. Just go out and do.
Nothing against anyone who wants one as they are undeniably an extremely cool truck, well executed but I guess I see it as a symbol of the “The more I spend the more offroady I am” vibe happening.

The Modded Jeep Effect - no matter how many unique/personal tattoos you get on your muscled arm different mods you get “installed by a shop”, you’ll find one pretty similar to yours within the week at the same mall parking lot.

No doubt. I get your point. I just have a hard time hating on Ford for making a cool truck that is popular and well designed from the factory. Sure I could buy a different vehicle and do a bunch of aftermarket stuff to it so that is my own but it is nice that a manufacturer has brought a turnkey product to market. I don’t really care if there are 1000's more like it on the road. I care about my car, not what everyone else on the road is driving. Just because a C63 AMG/GTR/etc is popular doesn’t to me mean it is any less of a badass car.

Its probably because I don’t see that many of them in the Midwest, but I still like them. Sure its bought capability, but I don’t see it as any different than buying a sports car. Sure you could build a normal car into a track car, but you can also just buy one. Same thing.
Personally I prefer the Powerwagons more. I just wish they made a 1500 sized one.

Mine had running boards as well. It had plenty of power and traction.. My co-worker had a similar Tahoe and it was way better. He just beat the crap out of that truck and it wouldn’t die.

It’s a show car!
Its built for attention, for people to enjoy looking at, in this case in the “offroader” style
I don’t understand it either and I agree it sure seems pervasive, but people will do what they enjoy.
Look at the upside, these people tend to have short attention spans and when they part-out their rigs it means gently used, reasonably priced parts for the guys who want to use them.
I got a lot of the big ticket items on my car for 30-60% off this way haha

This sort of attitude has always kinda annoyed me. Isn’t it good enough that they want to enjoy it in the first place? Why do they need to be an expert to get out there?
I can understand it from a safety standpoint if that’s what you mean, I’d be pretty annoyed if someone brought a 911 to an autocross and tried drifting instead of running the course safely.

nah, its not that I have anything against people wanting them. My deliberation is more on the truck itself. as I said, its more a symbol of the type of excessive showiness that is cringe inducing in the off-road community.
Think a raptor is badass and you just want one? cool! I think its badass too, I also think its crotch stuffing.

Oh yeah I get it completely. A great number of people will buy this plus mods for their Instagram rather than for their favorite trails. I find this truck extremely cool because of how Ford is dedicated to actually making it special.
Truth be told I want one and would DD it the same way I DD my Golf. Occasional off-road use.
