True, but waiting to see another on the road to wave to would kill you.

Pretty neat. I am curious about that C140 too, is it black or maybe Capri Blue? Looks like Lorinser wheels.

I’ve seen one of these in the wild. Phone was dead though, so no pics. Had very similar teal stripes.

I still want to see someone do a camper based on a hybrid powertrain. Maybe something like a lower-RPM-optimized version of the LC 500h’s powertrain, with a transfer case set up to drive the front wheels only. Then, if needed, have a motor or two on the rear wheels, if you want 4WD. (That way, you get more basement space, or a lower floor.) You won’t get much improvement in performance, although you can get optimization of efficiency, at least, and be able to recover energy while descending.

Then, add like 10-20 kWh of lithium ion batteries, to act as both house batteries and the traction pack.

Boondocking? Have the engine charge the batteries before you get to your destination. If that’s not enough, the engine can start up and recharge the batteries (which is why I’m thinking front engine rather than rear engine - you don’t want to be woken by it recharging the batteries), and do it with an engine that’s far more thermally efficient than a dedicated generator would be.

Have hookups? Deplete that pack, then hook up to a NEMA 14-50, and charge back up.

Pacifica hybrid conversion? in all seriousness its a solid idea. Ideally a series hybrid or range extended BEV would be the biz, since you would have torque for days and only gas limited endurance plus the packaging benefits would be huge.

I do think, for a very small RV (on the order of the Transporter conversions that people do in Europe), the Pacifica would work nicely. 16 kWh, too, in a smaller RV than I was thinking of. (I was thinking something as large as a 30' RV with this...)

Add swivel front seats, and either a tall roof (with a door extension), or a pop-up roof, though, and it could be a really good basis for something.

That floorplan is something that someone in an area that never gets bad weather would come up with - the galley being in the back works , but basically means that you can’t use it in bad weather.

oh I don’t know. with the hatch up you are pretty well protected. I cook in bad weather all the time from my tailgate under the safety of my hatch. Think of it like a teardrop.

Kinja'd!!!

I wouldn’t ever cook inside that thing, thats for sure.

Yeah, and a teardrop’s ultimate goal is to be as cheap as possible. A slide-out kitchen that comes out from under the bed is also cheap and simple.

But, I was thinking a floorplan more like this, the typical European camper van floorplan popularized by the VW Westfalia vans (and now done by the VW California and Mercedes Marco Polo):

My 2 cents is that I never cook inside my camper trailer, why would I want my entire vehicle to smell like onions for days?

There is always this approach, and taking advantage of the fact that you’ve got two sliding doors on the Pacifica whether you like it or not:
