Kinja'd!!!

Looks like I’m pulling the trigger on a new 8.8 rear end assembly tomorrow.

3.73 gears rebuilt about 5 years ago with the higher gearing and taken out of a 91 Mustang last week. The above pictured unit is the one I’m buying.

$175, sounds good to me!

Might take a bit to get this actually installed but I couldn’t pass up on this for 175. I’m picking it up tomorrow morning. This will be GREAT to have available for 1 the upgrade and 2 if the 7.5 that’s in the Rally Capri goes BOOM.

I don’t think I ever mentioned the goof up with the tires, they sent me a set for 17 inch wheels, which obviously won’t do. So they replaced those with 215/70/15's which are a hair bigger than the originally planned 205/70/15's. They’ll fit so I’m happy. Still have to get those mounted.

I swapped the starter solenoid recently and re-did a bunch of the wiring in the same way it came off -swapped fork connectors for loop connectors so they don’t fall off when racing on...uneven surfaces we’ll say. Still having some starting issues so we’ll see if I can get that worked out.

Finally, I wasn’t aware we could do so many boxes below so I took advantage of it lol.

Sure is! To be fair though my 7.5 from 82 is also an LSD. Guy claims to have only put 15k miles on it (stored in the winter type car) since he upgraded it to the 3.73's. Which is the gearing I actually wanted. 4.10 is higher than I want for rally, it’s no drag car.

4.10 or 4.44 is what I want for the ralle36.

You only need like a 100mph top speed for 2wd

Wait, someone upgrade a 7.5? And here I was thinking people were crazy for having them rebuilt when I worked for Jasper Engines.

some serious custom work involved in that i believe, and I have some worries about it being too low on one side and getting damaged.

Just looking to keep it still mildly streetable as the plan is to drive to and from races. I can always go up to 4.10 if i want in the future. The key is not having to upgrade to just get 3.73. Most of these used units are 3.27. my stock 7.5 inch diff is a 2.73 unit. It’ll be a big upgrade.

I spite-post because jelly. In seriousness, there’s a universal/do-it-yourselfey Panhard bar kit from Speedway for like $90, and then there’s this:

for going off the deep end.

everyone I’ve heard of rips em out and puts in an 8.8, especially if racing is involved

That reminds me, I need to register the RallyMetro for it’s first event in two weeks.

Getting parts together for an 8.8 swallow in my dad’s JPS. Good news is I get the narrowed 7.5 with its LSD and disk brakes for the Crapri.

The website only shows that seven people are booked for the event. Hopefully some more people register, or it’ll be canceled.

Solid axles in the smaller European Capri. This one’s narrowed converted to disk brakes with 3.23 gears and a limited slip. It works good in the lighter European Capri.

damn. WE have the exact opposite problem out here. You’ve got an hour or two to register for popular locations or it’s BOOKED and you’re on the waitlist.

Though that did lead to a guy getting off the waitlist unexpectedly day of the event. He was there to spectate and drove his daily driver F150....so he rallyX’ed the F150. Barely fit through the cones lol

Need me to hang onto my 7.5 for you? I know you’re in ontario, but if you’re coming for metro detroit oppo meet up....

lower gears than you were talking about and not shortened but it’s a 7.5 LSD 2.73 drum brakes.

Anyone with sense would. They are just slightly smaller and way worse. Plus 8.8's are a dime a dozen.

Fields were 30-40 cars last year. I’m not sure why so few have registered for this event.

Honestly I haven’t even driven it too much with the 2.73 in it yet, I don’t know if I’m going to have time to rip out the 7.5 and put in the 8.8 before the first race, but we shall see! Pretty much everyone who races Mustangs that I’ve talked to said the first thing to do is swap to an 8.8 rear. They say this becuase I already have the sub frames tied and the front strut tower brace haha

wait. I’m confused. Sounded like in your first post you were all for keeping and updating a 7.5 rear, were people actually doing this?

And yeah a bit of patience on facebook parts groups is getting me this one for cheap.

You sure it’s not an 8"? I didn’t think the Fox came with a 7.5. But I’m definitely interested even just for the diff. My dad nuked the Quiafe he had in the JPS. You have pictures of the 7.5"?

I’m strongly against it. In my original post I meant to mock the fact someone upgraded one. I think fixing them when they break is a waste of time and was really surprised some people would pay the massive Jasper price to fix a turd like that.

oooo PHEW

good. Got the 8.8 saturday morning, just as advertised looks like a nice unit, he included all the drum brake hardware and threw in the 4 control arms. which all have shot bushings in them and I have a friend offering to weld them up for just the cost of materials to make them drastically stronger, because I’m going to have to upgrade to tubular if he can’t strengthen them.

Fox was a 7.5 until they upgraded to the 8.8. Never had an 8".

In 86 the fox was upgraded to the 8.8 for V8/5.0 cars. every other engine option kept the 7.5.

Unfortunately I realized I’m not going to have time to do the diff/axle swap by then so the 7.5 won’t be ready for you at the OPPO meet up. I’m happy to keep it for you when I get around to pulling it though.

Here’s the meetup link:
